Because if Gmail is going to conflate those two addresses when
delivering mail, they should never have allowed two different users to
create two different accounts that their rules would be able to
conflate into one account erroneously... namely "mizelly" and
"miz.elly"
I don't think that happened.
All that Ellen said is that someone made purchases at Apple and used mizelly as his/her email address. That might have been a typo of that person's actual email or otherwise, but nothing in the story suggests that Gmail ever actually held that address as a separate account from Ellen's.
