As far as the transmission of e-mails is concerned, BiKenG is right. But there's nothing in the e-mail standards to prevent the e-mail destination interpreting names however it likes -- that's not twisting or bending the rules at all.
Exactly! There's nothing PREVENTING interpretation in the standards, but the case where mail sent by Apple to mizelly@... was delivered by Gmail to miz.elly@gmail is a case of GROSS INCOMPETENCE. Why? Because if Gmail is going to conflate those two addresses when delivering mail, they should never have allowed two different users to create two different accounts that their rules would be able to conflate into one account erroneously... namely "mizelly" and "miz.elly"
