Re: Petition #2

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I don¡¯t object to your new format, Vivian, though I do have a few suggestions.

In the third sentence, I¡¯d change ¡°an election¡± to ¡°the majority of seats¡±.

In the fifth sentence, I¡¯d say ¡°under 40%¡± rather than ¡°only 39%¡±.

In the third paragraph, I¡¯d change ¡°amplifies¡± to ¡°exaggerates¡± and replace the two ¡°nothings¡± with ¡°no seats¡± and ¡°none¡± respectively. ?In the last sentence I¡¯d insert ¡°really¡± between ¡°it¡± and ¡°is¡±.

In the fourth paragraph, I¡¯d insert ¡°provincial¡± before ¡°Electoral Reform Commission¡± or add ¡°appointed by Premier Lord¡± after it.

I note that you have removed reference to the McKenna landslide - where all seats were won based on only 60% or so of the vote. ?I thought that was a great reminder to the PCs of how they too have suffered as a result of our obsolete FPTP system.

At any rate, these are just suggestions.

Yes, that's the idea. I looked at the vote % in each riding, and painted in the other party colours in approximately the right amount. I tried to be artsy about it; so if the riding next to it voted for someone else, I'd make it look as if some of that other party bled in over the border. Also, I usually put PANB purple in between Liberal red and PC blue because red and blue blend to make purple. It was fun, like an art project.

Sadly, there's very little NDP orange on the map.

What do you all think about changing the wording to ask for a CA? It's true that the 2004 report is going on 17 years old. And of course, Brian Gallant's commission that recommended AV is best forgotten. So perhaps that's a better approach.

While it's very important to acknowledge the 2004 report, it was almost 20 years ago now. It's sort of like there's no way the federal Liberals feel the least bit pressured because of the 2004 Law Commission report.

I'd definitely encourage you, when the group is ready, to have me put it on our civi platform. It's not as beautiful looking as a page like??but it means you are adding people to our database (getting emails) that you can communicate with in future - building FVC in NB so when you're ready to do a "next thing" like visit your MLA or lobby for a resolution at a convention there's a list of people to ask.

I'm not happy with the last sentence. It's long and clunky. I based it on the sample text that the NB government website suggests for petitions, and their version is way worse. But this is still bad. Rewording is welcome.

You can see the government's suggested text at??. It won't be an official petition because official petitions can only be on paper, so we don't have to follow their formula, which is incredibly butt-kissing and shows no sign of having been updated for the new millennium.
