Baofeng UV-82HP Memory programming

If you don't find CHIRP supports your particular radio, you might check RT Systems and see if they have software that works for your model. It's a bit easier to use than CHIRP and supports more models than CHIRP does, but it isn't free. The Chinese HT makers have come out with so many different models and variations that it's no surprise that CHIRP can't keep up on a low-budget operation and offering it for "free" to hams. Memory programming
I have a Baofeng UV-82HP which is a nice HT, and I would like to use it on satellites. However, you cannot manually program crossband memories in it, and setting the repeater shift to large values doesn't work either. Will using CHIRP to program it allow me to store crossband memories in it, like where it receives on 437.810 and transmits on 145,990? 73 John AF5CC

UV-5R Dual band mod to 220 MHz band
24
First let me say thanks for letting me join this group. I have 2) UV-5R's and 1) BF-R3 (tri-band) and a couple of other Baofeng/BTECH mobiles. They all have their quirks, but for the most part operate VERY well! I bought the BF-R3 as it was CHEAP, especially for a Tri-Band (2mtrs, 1.25 mtrs, and 70 cm). So I went to program it using CHIRP (they don't make OEM software for this radio, so I had no choice), but I found out the the model BF-R3 doesn't exist in ANY of the 3 manufacturers that make/sell the Baofeng products! So then I went back to the CHIRP website and found a paragraph that says to use the "Radioddity" model "UV-5X3". It said UV-5xx, so I tried it and sure enough it read the radio. Then I put in several 2 mtr, 220 MHz, and 440 MHz repeater pairs and uploaded them to the radio. IT WORKED!! So I finished loading all the repeaters/frequencies I wanted, flashed them to the radio for the most part everything works fine. There are a number of 220 MHz repeaters listed for my area in Repeaterbook.com, but as this band isn't used much, a LOT of them are no longer on the air, so I have to continue to hunt for working ones, but that's neither here or there. I then took one of my UV-5R's and read it using that same set up and it read it just fine. It even took the same database. But when I tried to use the radio, 2mtrs and 70 cm worked just fine, but the 220 band wouldn't transmit. So I went back to the CHIRP site and found that you have to go in and change the radio's VHF frequency span to: VHF Lower Limit - 130 MHz VHF Upper Limit to 250 MHz The VHF Upper limit frequency defaults to 177 MHz, or something like that and it MUST be changed. It transmits/receives just fine. BUT, and this is a BIG BUT: You MUST switch to a TRI-BAND antenna!!! Do NOT use the antenna that Radioddity sells as it is NO GOOD!!! I know from personal experience that their antenna is BAD on both 2 mtrs and 220 MHz. It works great on the 70 cm Ham band!! It doesn't work well at all on GMRS frequencies either, just the 440 MHz band!! I inadvertently purchased one through Amazon. Whe I received it, I noticed that it said "Radioddity on the packing (not a company known for quality products). It was NOT what they advertised, so I read the reviews of it and there were NO good reviews. So I decided to put it on my work bench (I'm the Radio Tech for our County) BEFORE putting it on my radio. Sure enough, that antenna was CRAP! The reviews were 100% accurate!! I did some research and fount that Nagoya makes a tri-band antenna (NA-320A), which I purchased and they work GREAT!! I have the instructions on how to convert your UV-5R to a Tri-Band radio, if anyone would like. Just email me @: KC7CJO@... The more Hams we can get on 220 MHz, the more popular it will be come!! Let the FUN begin! 73's! Rod KC7CJO

Programming Boafeng UV5RA3 & UV5RX3 With Chirp for 220
Some of you may have already attempted to program 220 freqs on your UV5R*3 with Chirp which resulted in permanently disabling the radio's 220 ability. Here's what you must do. #1, You must use the latest version of Chirp requiring Windows 10 or later on a 64 bit machine. You can not use Chirp Legacy! #2, Set Chirp to Radioddity UV5RX3. Download from the radio's it's factory image file and save it. #3, Inter all the frequency channel data you want. #4, Selected "advanced settings". At the bottom of the list read "Range Override Parameter". The factory setting is "default". Change this to "atyourownrisk". You can not paste it in.(see attached) #5, Upload data to your radio. If you have a second radio to program you must repeat step #4. #6, Save as: Radioddity_UV-5RX3 UseAtOwnRisk The "Range Override Parameter" will go back to "default" after every download, and it can not be save. Notes on 220 in other Baofeng UV5's: Contrary to what you have seen on youtube videos, changing the range of a UV5R will not allow operation on 220. While the radio may accept programming on that band, it will not function. Of the 5 radios that I did this to, only one had measurable output power, and it had heavily distorted audio. Earlier UV5RA3 versions specifically built to included 220 do not appear to require the special care outlined above. I have programmed them with Chirp legacy without issue. You will not see the advanced settings menu in Chirp Legacy that you have in the Windows 10/64 version. Dennis Starks Military-Radio-Guy KB?SFP

Can I setup UV5Rx3 or BFF8HP or UV9R Pro for two-tone paging encode/decode ?
My local EmComm group is trying out alerting two-tone audio alerts for severe weather events. Are BaoFeng HTs programmable to use this feature? BaoFeng website isn't clearest on this Thanks, Ed/KC3NAF

UV-5RH Issues
14
I just received my UV-5RH, and I am not able to read or write from the thing. I've tried with both the T6UV and CHIRP software, but it always fails. Not only that, but I even bought two more programming cables (never hurts to have spares, amirite?) and they don't help. When I try to read/write, the picture of the computer comes up on the radio screen, but no data is transferred. In T6UV, it just says "Failure". In CHIRP, using the 5RM model, the message is "Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want". Any tips before I send this back? Firmware: 1.05 Hardware: V01

UV82 - No UHF Tx
3
A UV82 has come my way as part of a silent key estate. It transmits on 2m but not 70cm I¡¯ve checked the settings to ensure it hasn¡¯t been restricted, tried resetting and reprogramming, still no tx on 70cm. Not even enough to detect on a receiver nearby. Nothing on the display to suggest it isn¡¯t transmitting when the ptt is pressed. My understanding, which could be false, is that these radios are largely ¡®common¡¯ path for their RF - ie only one PA, driver, etc. While a bad reactive component may be the cause, if that were the case ( at least if in the PA etc), I¡¯d expected some RF, even if just enough to detect on a nearby Rx. Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas, please? 73 Brian G8OSN/W8OSN

using UV5R with Echolink
Anyone know about using a UV5R as an echolink hotspot and specifically what cable are you using successfully with the UV5R and PC. I have ordered a K2 cable that is also used for APRS from Amazon after seeing an article on this subject online - but - this cable seems to have extremely narrow audio out when I transmit. It almost sounds like a landline phone going back and out through Echolink. Several years ago there was a simple cable setup available that seemed to work well and I was looking to trade notes with someone who has a working setup like this because the cable from amazon doesn't seem to cut it for transmitting back through echolink. Appreciate any thoughts on this question.

Removal of offline symbol DM-1701
3
Hi, I'm struggling with turning off the offline symbol on the 1701, its that little blue arrow at the top right of the screen on the right of the encryption icon, Reason i ask is because i programmed a frequency into the radio, the slot was correct and the colour code was correct, but although i can see activity on the screen i cannot hear anything, the weird part is, if i change the tx frequency and leave the rx frequency on the channel i want to hear, then i can hear the chat, doing that also makes the blue arrow icon change to a minus, I take it because the radio channel is now set as a repeater style one, I just want to turn off the offline icon so i can talk on the channel as well, so wanted to know how to do it, i have looked in all the radio settings and in the CPS settings and there is nothing i can see,, any help appreciated.

Baofeng UV-18 Pro Max GPS Air Band Horrible RX
I have UV-18 Pro Max GPS I am convinced it is genuine, color screen, large numbers, deep voice in the menu with the ability to create zones in memory is the correct radio. But I am disappointed because the AM (Wide) Air Band mode sounds Horrible, hoarse, saturated, strong signals are heard saturated, almost nothing is understood. I really like the style of this radio. I have the UV-17 Pro GPS, reception is completely understandable, crystal sound is received very nice in AM mode. I imagined that having so much similarity in terms of firmware (when both radios are turned on, the screen looks like two drops of water) that it would have the same reception but that is not the case. Any comments are welcome. Radius: 100 Firmware: Ver1.03 Hardware:1.30

Baofeng UV18 Pro Max Wont Power Off

Got this about a week ago and powers on fine but wont power off when I switch off; it will happily drain the battery even when I switch the power off, and the radio remains on. Any suggestions?

Radioddity GC-5
BTW: Happy New Year To All On The Group. Unlike the Baofeng UF-17 which has a a Unofficial "CPS Unofficial Build 124j" which make it a good workable radio the(Sister like) Radioddity GC-5 has Many shortcomings (like Its LOCKED) It Looks Like it will become another Radioddity Orphan Radio unlike the Radiodiity GD-77 which has a fantastic support and Freeware firmware that make it a Fun DMR/Analog radio. Unlike the UF-17,I have Searched and Found No "Build" that would firstly Open Up the GC-5 and clean up the "foibles" Any one on the group have any Information on this Radio and any "Unofficial" Builds? Best Regards. Steve AB2ET

GM-15 PRO
2
Hey everyone! I've got a booger that I haven't been able to figure out on my own. I'm working with a friends GM-15 pro and immediately found out that it is not supported for programming by either Baofeng or CHIRP. I did download the software recommended from Radiocity for their GM-30 model. It seems to be working fairly well, but the info I'm using (which worked in my UV-9R Pro doesn't seem to be translating across for some reason. I can listen to all four channels but cant transmit on any of them. Side issue on my 9r I can't transmit on channel 3 because there's no alternate to D450N if anyone has a workaround for that. I will attach pics of the channels and the way it is set up. The original frequency information was pulled from a Kenwood TK-3200. There are really only two frequencies separated by different DTCS codes. I can't see what I've missed but I'm hoping yall can!

UV-5RH
6
Hi Everyone, Thanks for letting me join. I already have a number of UV-5R's but I have just purchased a UV-5RH. I expected it to be very similar to the 5R, but it has several different options in the menus and it didn't come with any user manual! Does anyone know where I could find a manual for it, and also if it is possible to get Chirp to recognize the radio - I have had no luck so far. Cheers, Peter E.

UV-5R Dual Watch function
12
Hi, I'm new to the group. I searched the messages for this topic but didn't find anything. I am trying to get Dual Watch to work on my UV-5R. When I go to the Menu, it says the TDR is ON. But when I try it the dual watch function is not working. I only hear the channel with the arrow. I have to push the A/B button to hear the other channel. I have tried programming it manually through the Menu and also using Chirp, but get the same result. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

DM-1701 does not turn-on
4
I have the Baofeng DM-1701 and it is about two years old. Went on vacation and three weeks later went to turn on the radio and it did not turn on. Figured the battery was dead but after charging it, it still did not work, so I tried another battery, still did not work. Batteries are good as they work in my other DM-1701. Think I paid around $100 so sending it in for repair would not be cost effective. Has anyone experienced this problem or do you have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

DOCUMENT UPLOADED TO FILES AREA: How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R
I uploaded two documents, one in MS Word format, the other as a PDF. They are both titled: How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R I thought this might be something users of this radio might want to keep a local copy of on hand. Donald KX8K
