DM-1701 contacts help 2
I have a DM-1701 and an Anytone 878UV. On the Anytone there are two different areas, one for digital talk groups and another for digital contacts (DMR IDs) that can be displayed on a received signal. On the DM-1701 there is only one area labeled digital contacts. As I read articles on the web it says you can put either talk groups or digital contacts of the DMR ID type in that area. The articles say one or the other but not both? I know you must have talk groups to create channels. You do not need to have the DMR database loaded in the radio to use it. I see lots of articles about how to load the DMR ID database but none about loading the talk groups. I loaded several talk groups into the digital contacts area of the codeplug and am using the radio, it works great. But I get no display about the transmitting station except their DMR ID that is being sent by their radio. Can I load both talk groups and DMR ID database into that one area? Or how do you manage that on a DM-1701? Fred, K0FG

All programmed, nowhere to go! 4
All programmed manually, receives voice and repeater id, signal appears on TinySA on or near correct freq (same as old icom ht) but no audio to repeater or it fails to key repeater. Just finished test with all band receiver and both icom and UV-5R are exactly on freq with same audio so I conclude the Bearfang is not sending the CTCSS tone. Any suggestions? 73 Karl KI4ZUQ

Thanks Tony Re: [Baofeng] Image Files for UV9R Pro vice CSV for UV5R, BFF8?
Hi Tony; Thanks for the feedback! So I initially did what you say, download the new radio image file, copy my existing frequency list CSV file into the radio image file and save with a new name. Didn¡¯t work. Obviously I¡¯m doing something wrong (operator error) and will try again tomorrow! (Work day today). Thanks again! How do I get a list of frequencies in CSV in CHIRPNext into a Image file that the new UV9R Pro accepts to upload? Quite easy ... open 2 tabs in chirp-next. In one tab, load the image file, in the 2nd tab, open the csv file. Then select everything in the csv file tab and paste it into the image tab, then upload the new image tab to the radio. Be sure to save the amended image to a local file so that you can modify it and upload later. The beauty of chirp is of course its price, and the vast variety of radios supported. It's worth making a donation to them.

Image Files for UV9R Pro vice CSV for UV5R, BFF8? 7
Greetings I'm new to the group. I just purchased a UV9R Pro (because it is more water resistant than other BaoFeng models. I tried to program using BaoFeng USB/chipset cord and CHIRP (ver CHIRPNext 20230515). Did the normal CHIRP routine, downloaded the (New) RADIO program load first, assuming I could then upload my existing frequency list with couple hundred entries. Instead the new UV9R Pro in CHIRPNext requires save the Downloaded new Radio program as an IMAGE file (dot img). So I did that in CHIRPNext. Now I have my old long frequency list as a CSV file and am unable to just upload it like I used to for previous radios UV5Rx3, BFF*. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get a list of frequencies in CSV in CHIRPNext into a Image file that the new UV9R Pro accepts to upload? Appreciate all helpful tips, I'm not a computer geek/expert so file types baffle me and I can't find anything in the CHIRP instructions OR new UV9R Pro addressing the different program load file types... Thanks in advance, 73, Ed/KC3NAF

OV-S9X3 7
Our club has bulk purchased a bunch of Baofeng UV-S9X3 to sell or give away to new hams. The UV-S9X3 is a tri-band radio that makes a great introductory radio. We have a Chirp file we use to program the radios with our local standard frequency list. the list includes 2 meter, 1.25 meter, and 70 cm repeaters and simplex frequencies. The issue is with a few of the radios, they will not transmit on 220. Utilizing Chirp they program just fine, but will not transmit on 220, while the rest of the bunch do program and transmit on 220. Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Rich, KR4PI

Tone squelch does not work on my BF-F8HP 4
Has anyone else tried to use a CTCSS receive tone on their BF-F8HP? If I have a transmit CTCSS tone configured, I cannot make a receive tone "stick". That is, when I exit the menu, the setting reverts to "off". And if I try to set it to TSQL in Chirp (CTCSS xmit and rcv), the setting will get copied to the radio, but I can never hear anyone who transmits a CTCSS tone. Also cannot hear repeaters that transmit a tone.

CHIRP Help / Baofeng VU16 Pro 2
I have a quick question for the group. I have purchased a Baofeng VU16 Pro (Dual Band model). Somehow I have overwritten the base file I had saved when I got the radio before I started programming it with CHIRP. I have also reset the squelch settings and have set them too high. I have searched the web and have yet to find a copy of the base file. I have checked out RT Systems, but they shouldn't be the only software to program he radio. I see so many others reference CHIRP for the Baofengs, I agree, I don't get all the features uploaded (I use Baofeng BF-F8HP) to program as my radio isn't listed (yet). I hope I'm not breaking any rules but I'm also posting this to the Chirp group in hopes of getting assistance also. What I'm looking for is the following: 1. Base file for the Baofeng VU16 Pro Dual Band radio 2. The original numbers for the squelch settings for the VU16 Pro Thank you in advance -- Eddie Carroll KD4BAS Western KY USA

New (to me) UV-5RX3 programming 9
First post here, hello. I was gifted a UV-5RX3 and I am unable to get CHIRP (next) to read it. I have selected the Radioddity UV-5RX3 model and the correct com ports - which is either a real Serial port on COM1 or a pair of other USB Serial cables (COM5 and 6) I am able to use successfully for other radios (Kenwood TH-G71A and TYT UV-H88), I've even tried the Prolific Cable that came in the box and Windows 10 installed a driver for it, but it keys the transmitter, so it was uninstalled. With the any of the serial ports I am getting a "Radio did not respond" error. The Firmware on the display says BFS001 and I am aware that this may be meaningless. SN: EU2016051503 Is it possible to test the serial communication with a terminal emulator? What serial parameters and possible commands might retrieve a response? If the serial port is plain dead then I'll have to program what I want added by hand (uggg). Thank you Danny, K5CG

How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R two way radio (WAS: UV-5R Watch function)

I have one myself but I've never reset it. Apparently, there are various things you can reset on the UV-5R. Try these instructions: https://www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2016/07/how_to_reset_a_baofeng_uv-5r_two_way_radio.html ================================================================= How to reset a Baofeng UV-5R two way radio Certain circumstances may require you to perform a reset on your Baofeng. Performing a reset is extremely easy, however if you speak only English and the voice prompts are in Chinese, performing a simple reset or recovering from one may require a little more attention. Follow the steps below to reset a Baofeng UV-5R, BF-F9, BF-F8+, UV-B6 or UV-82 two way radio from Buy Two Way Radios. To perform a VFO Reset 1.Turn on the radio and press the MENU button. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select RESET (Menu Item 40). 3.Press MENU to choose RESET. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose VFO. 5.Press MENU. The radio will display SOURCE? 6.Press MENU to confirm. The radio will display WAIT... for a few seconds, then beep twice to confirm reset is complete. The radio will revert to Chinese language mode. Reset is complete. To perform a FULL Reset 1.Turn on the radio and press the MENU button. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select RESET (Menu Item 40). 3.Press MENU to choose RESET. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose ALL. 5.Press MENU. The radio will display SOURCE? 6.Press MENU to confirm. The radio will display WAIT... for a few seconds, then beep twice to confirm reset is complete. 7.The radio will revert to Chinese language mode. Reset is complete. To set language from Chinese to English 1.Press MENU. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select VOICE (Menu Item 14). 3.Press MENU to choose VOICE. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose ENG. 5.Press MENU to choose ENG. NOTE: a VFO RESET only resets the frequency values in VFO mode. To reset the radio back to factory defaults, choose RESET/ALL. A reset may resolve some issues, but will not resolve them all. Some scenarios, such as inoperability due to an incorrect or corrupt image file cannot be resolved with a reset and require another resolution. It is, however, usually a standard first step when troubleshooting the radio. ================================================================= Please go to the link for the original discussion about resetting this radio. I suggest copying the text above and pasting it into a word processor, then saving it in a convenient format, like PDF, so that you can share this in the future. DM-1701 does not turn-on 4
I have the Baofeng DM-1701 and it is about two years old. Went on vacation and three weeks later went to turn on the radio and it did not turn on. Figured the battery was dead but after charging it, it still did not work, so I tried another battery, still did not work. Batteries are good as they work in my other DM-1701. Think I paid around $100 so sending it in for repair would not be cost effective. Has anyone experienced this problem or do you have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

UV-5R Dual Watch function 12
Hi, I'm new to the group. I searched the messages for this topic but didn't find anything. I am trying to get Dual Watch to work on my UV-5R. When I go to the Menu, it says the TDR is ON. But when I try it the dual watch function is not working. I only hear the channel with the arrow. I have to push the A/B button to hear the other channel. I have tried programming it manually through the Menu and also using Chirp, but get the same result. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

UV-5RH 6
Hi Everyone, Thanks for letting me join. I already have a number of UV-5R's but I have just purchased a UV-5RH. I expected it to be very similar to the 5R, but it has several different options in the menus and it didn't come with any user manual! Does anyone know where I could find a manual for it, and also if it is possible to get Chirp to recognize the radio - I have had no luck so far. Cheers, Peter E.

GM-15 PRO 2
Hey everyone! I've got a booger that I haven't been able to figure out on my own. I'm working with a friends GM-15 pro and immediately found out that it is not supported for programming by either Baofeng or CHIRP. I did download the software recommended from Radiocity for their GM-30 model. It seems to be working fairly well, but the info I'm using (which worked in my UV-9R Pro doesn't seem to be translating across for some reason. I can listen to all four channels but cant transmit on any of them. Side issue on my 9r I can't transmit on channel 3 because there's no alternate to D450N if anyone has a workaround for that. I will attach pics of the channels and the way it is set up. The original frequency information was pulled from a Kenwood TK-3200. There are really only two frequencies separated by different DTCS codes. I can't see what I've missed but I'm hoping yall can!

Radioddity GC-5
BTW: Happy New Year To All On The Group. Unlike the Baofeng UF-17 which has a a Unofficial "CPS Unofficial Build 124j" which make it a good workable radio the(Sister like) Radioddity GC-5 has Many shortcomings (like Its LOCKED) It Looks Like it will become another Radioddity Orphan Radio unlike the Radiodiity GD-77 which has a fantastic support and Freeware firmware that make it a Fun DMR/Analog radio. Unlike the UF-17,I have Searched and Found No "Build" that would firstly Open Up the GC-5 and clean up the "foibles" Any one on the group have any Information on this Radio and any "Unofficial" Builds? Baofeng UV-18 Pro Max GPS Air Band Horrible RX
I have UV-18 Pro Max GPS I am convinced it is genuine, color screen, large numbers, deep voice in the menu with the ability to create zones in memory is the correct radio. But I am disappointed because the AM (Wide) Air Band mode sounds Horrible, hoarse, saturated, strong signals are heard saturated, almost nothing is understood. I really like the style of this radio. I have the UV-17 Pro GPS, reception is completely understandable, crystal sound is received very nice in AM mode. I imagined that having so much similarity in terms of firmware (when both radios are turned on, the screen looks like two drops of water) that it would have the same reception but that is not the case. Any comments are welcome. Radius: 100 Firmware: Ver1.03 Hardware:1.30

Removal of offline symbol DM-1701 3
Hi, I'm struggling with turning off the offline symbol on the 1701, its that little blue arrow at the top right of the screen on the right of the encryption icon, Reason i ask is because i programmed a frequency into the radio, the slot was correct and the colour code was correct, but although i can see activity on the screen i cannot hear anything, the weird part is, if i change the tx frequency and leave the rx frequency on the channel i want to hear, then i can hear the chat, doing that also makes the blue arrow icon change to a minus, I take it because the radio channel is now set as a repeater style one, I just want to turn off the offline icon so i can talk on the channel as well, so wanted to know how to do it, i have looked in all the radio settings and in the CPS settings and there is nothing i can see,, any help appreciated.
