DM-1701 does not turn-on

I have the Baofeng DM-1701 and it is about two years old.? Went on vacation and three weeks later went to turn on the radio and it did not turn on.? Figured the battery was dead but after charging it, it still did not work, so I tried another battery, still did not work.? Batteries are good as they work in my other DM-1701.
Think I paid around $100 so sending it in for repair would not be cost effective.
Has anyone experienced this problem or do you have any suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated.

You did the one thing the Baofeng troubleshooting guide said to do, other than
making sure that the battery is installed correctly, and I don't know how you
could install it incorrectly.

One thing you can do is take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts on the
battery and radio, the parts that mate with one another. A pencil eraser is a
very mild abrasive that will be safe for this. I would focus more on the dead
radio's contacts since the batteries work with the other radio.

If you don't get any other suggestions, try the amateur-repairs group. After
that, you can open the radio and take a look. See if the power button looks
damaged. Maybe rig something up to bypass the power button. If you get it to
power up that way, see about a factory reset. I read about a Yaesu HT that was
intermittent. The radio was given to another person, who did a factory reset
once he got the power button to work once, and that fixed the power on problem.

Donald,

Thank you for the suggestions.? Yes the battery cannot be installed wrong since it only fits one way.? I did clean the contacts and still nothing.
I am suspecting the Power switch as it has always been the biggest complain of other owners.

I should have purchased the extended warranty and now I am kicking myself.? I will try a couple of other groups but do not hold out for much hope.

As a last resort I will get into the radio and see if I can see anything.? Thanks again.

I have had success with other such problems by flooding the power switch with a solvent such as CRC QD (quick dry) Electronics Cleaner, repeatedly working the switch before the solvent dries, and then trying to power-up after everything has had time to dry. I call it magic snake oil, available at almost any auto parts store in a red and white spray can.
