New DM-1702 problems
I recently purchased a Baofeng DM-1702 DMR which includes GPS and APRS. I cannot get it to connect to the PC software, Win10 Pro 64-bit, CPS DM-1702 V1.00.79. I have a DM-1701, purchased earlier, and it seems to be working fine with it's software, CPS DM-1701 V1.05
My problem is, the radio (1702) seems to connect. I hear the Windows connect tone and I see in device manager "no printer attached", which is strange, as one would think it would come up as a COM port or USB device. Tried both cables: Micro USB port and K to USB that came with the radio (the one that connects to the speaker/mic ports). I have tried to update this driver but it says the one installed is the best. The software will not connect to download the radio data. Gives and error message and resets the radio. It looks like I can program channels manually, as it has the RX Frequency, TX Frequency, and CTCSS tone settings in the Settings menu when the radio is set to channel mode. (I did this with the 1701 with success).??When set to VFO mode, I do not see these settings. Right now, channel mode is A, VFO mode is B, and I cannot see how to change these from the radio menu. Also, in "Radio Info - Versions" it shows Firmware: 1.05.01.005 and CPS . (just a dot). Another thing, the volume control seems glitchy. It starts out rather quiet at 1 and by 3 it is blasting. I've done a search to see if I can find anything on this radio but it seems it is too new to have anything available. Any suggestions? Or would you say this radio is defective somehow? Should I return it and get another, or just get my money back? I bought it through AliExpress. I have purchased other items with them with only one other problem and they solved it right away. Thanks for any help. *** Walt *** WA7SDY *** |
Re: UV-82 Malware
actually, it's saying "low voltage". Some Baofeng units have really lousy voice prompt quality-this is the problem. On Tue, May 4, 2021 at 7:25 PM Jim <liteways@...> wrote:

The Prolific USB drivers allow the USB cable to act in the same way that typical RS-232 does. 73 Mike W5RKL On 2021-05-04 2:30 PM, Howard S. Lee wrote:

I'll add here that both the cable I bought on Amazon from BTech (Baofeng's store on Amazon) and the one with about 10 connectors on one end from AliExpress worked fine. I did some reading ahead of time before the "octopus" cable with all the different connectors arrived and found the correct driver to download so I was ready ahead of time. The same or a similar one is available on Amazon for about double the price. BUT--there are some ones that don't work sold on ebay and Amazon, so be careful. Re: UV-82 Malware
Actually, it's saying "Low Voltage":the voice quality on the Baofeng radios is pretty lousy, and some of them are worse than others.. And when I say some of them are worse, I don't mean certain models, but certain units.
Others have heard similar stuff.
And not only on the uv-82-but some other Baofeng radios(often(but not only) uv-5 series). Some people have heard this as "little brown tits", or "little gold tits", or even "robo tits". So most likely not malware(it's probably not even possible, as I'm pretty sure that the voice files are stored on a one-time programmable IC, so malware should not be able to change it). This is the same reason why firnware updates are not possible on most Baofeng radios. So it's probably not fixable-perhaps the dealer might be willing to offer an exchange if it bothers you enough. Or-sell it to someone who does not care, then use the proceeds to buy another unit, hopefully with clearer audio(it's unlikely that a another unit will have the same issue). ? UV-82 Malware
I am using a Dell laptop with WIN XP.
I bought a programming cable from a dealer at the hamfest in Seveireville, TN. It was labeled "Baofeng" on a black plastic insert in a metal clip on the top of the USB plug. The small CD accompanying it was broken. I tried to use Chirp, and already installed drivers, but they did not work. I downloaded the Driver, and software that the Miklor site reccommends. I tried to use it, but I just kept getting error messages. I then tried a programming cable that I got from R&L several years ago to program a Wouxun KG-UVD1P. It worked the first time. Obviously, the problem was tha cable,I acquired in TN, not the Miklor drivers. I think the cable is a counterfeit, that is not FTDI compliant. I dont't know for sure, nothing I did would identify it. Anyway, somewhere in all of this some malware got into the system. When the battery is getting low, the UV 82 every 28 seconds says "mobile tits", blanking out any audio signal the radio is receiving. I can stop this by turning of the voice, but I really would like to have the voice prompts active. Any body have any ideas on how to fix this? Dan AI8O |

Baofeng DM-1701 DMR radio -- do you have one?
Does anyone here have the Baofeng DM-1701 and has used the DMR
features on it? I would like to compare it with the very popular Anytone DMR radios. It's less expensive but is it as good, and is it easy to set up, program, and use? It's my understanding they were trying to suppress non-military
communication. Making HTs illegal would help the military hold onto their power. D--n the Myanmar FCC is hard core!
If they ever hit a major hamfest; the prisons would be overflowing. I keep hoping the new FCC chairperson (Jessica Rosewercel) tightens up the FCC enforcement, but not this tight. Prison for having a CCR??!?!? Whoa! |
