Baofeng DM-1701 display colour
Hi, I bought a couple of 1701's and when they arrived they had the open GD77 firmware in them, I got the 1701 original firmware from the radioddity site, firmware v2.03, now flashing the radio back to standard the display is not the normal blue, the Baofeng name on turn on is red, so is the menu icon and the icon on the right with the speaker and x, the background is a yellow colour, There does not seem to be any issues with it but i would like the colour like my other radios, (back to blue) Can anyone throw any light on it as i've looked in the programming software and in the firmware software .ini file to see if there is a setting to alter the display colour, but i cannot find anything.

Thanks.
The software works!
I didn't know there were other programs beside Chirp to program these radios, but I assume the Chinese must set them up somehow - I saw lots of Baofengs being used at building sites when I was over there.
Cheers,

Thanks Donald,
I must say, I'm not sure I had the volume up all the way each time I tested it with Chirp so I may try the tests again, but I did try setting it for?BF-F8HP and it just comes back with a "no response received" message. Unfortunately here in Aust. we don't have much option other than purchasing these things from Ebay, so I don't think I have much chance of getting a manual. Also, buyer beware! I bought this unit to try out the "encryption" and "frequency hopping" capabilities as advertised by the seller, but after looking at the options in the menu, (and listed on the box) I am pretty sure it hasn't got either of these capabilities - more lies by Ebay sellers! I don't see a UV-5RH but I do see this one, and it says to use a different model when selecting the radio in CHIRP: UV-5RHP (use BF-F8HP) I don't know if you can use the HP version or not. You would have to give it a try. You do know about keeping the volume control wide open when downloading/uploading data from/to the radio? I think I had trouble using CHIRP the first time because I didn't have the volume control open enough. Does anyone know where I could find a manual for it, and also if it is possible to get Chirp to recognize the radio - I have had no luck so far.I can't find a manual for it, either. You may want to contact the company by mail and see if they can send you a manual. Mention in your request that you want to be able to read the manual so that you can follow the safety recommendations in it, as well as to see how the menu system works. Hi Everyone, Thanks for letting me join.
I already have a number of UV-5R's but I have just purchased a UV-5RH. I expected it to be very similar to the 5R, but it has several different options in the menus and it didn't come with any user manual! Does anyone know where I could find a manual for it, and also if it is possible to get Chirp to recognize the radio - I have had no luck so far. Cheers, Peter E. |

Re: DM-1701 does not turn-on
开云体育I have had success with other such problems by flooding the power switch with a solvent such as CRC QD (quick dry) Electronics Cleaner, repeatedly working the switch before the solvent dries, and then trying to power-up after everything has had time to dry. I call it magic snake oil, available at almost any auto parts store in a red and white spray can.On 10/9/23 22:22, Anthony (Tony),

Re: DM-1701 does not turn-on
Donald,
Thank you for the suggestions.? Yes the battery cannot be installed wrong since it only fits one way.? I did clean the contacts and still nothing. I am suspecting the Power switch as it has always been the biggest complain of other owners. I should have purchased the extended warranty and now I am kicking myself.? I will try a couple of other groups but do not hold out for much hope. As a last resort I will get into the radio and see if I can see anything.? Thanks again. Tony KH6TG |

One thing you can do is take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts on the battery and radio, the parts that mate with one another. A pencil eraser is a very mild abrasive that will be safe for this. I would focus more on the dead radio's contacts since the batteries work with the other radio. If you don't get any other suggestions, try the amateur-repairs group. After that, you can open the radio and take a look. See if the power button looks damaged. Maybe rig something up to bypass the power button. If you get it to power up that way, see about a factory reset. I read about a Yaesu HT that was intermittent. The radio was given to another person, who did a factory reset once he got the power button to work once, and that fixed the power on problem. DM-1701 does not turn-on
I have the Baofeng DM-1701 and it is about two years old.? Went on vacation and three weeks later went to turn on the radio and it did not turn on.? Figured the battery was dead but after charging it, it still did not work, so I tried another battery, still did not work.? Batteries are good as they work in my other DM-1701.
Think I paid around $100 so sending it in for repair would not be cost effective. Has anyone experienced this problem or do you have any suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated. |
Re: UV-5R Dual Watch function
Not sure if Menu Item #34 - TDR-AB would affect the dual watch feature. I found a discussion regarding TDR-AB that indicates it simply locks in one specific frequency or channel for transmission, while still allowing dual watch function: The older radio software included a Menu Item that could "lock" transmission to a specific frequency or channel, even when monitoring two different frequencies or channels with Dual Watch Mode. The older software featured a Menu Item #34: TDR-AB. The option allowed selection of either Display Line A or B as the transmitter frequency or channel. In both new and older UV-5R radios, be sure to turn TDR (Menu 7) off before attempting to manually program a duplex memory channel into the radio. - KG5SQJ Bob Ballard - groups.io/g/w5pc/topic/fyi_baofeng_uv_5r_and/24189497 ) However, Menu Item #34, TDR-AB, does NOT function on UV-5R radios built after 2014! The newer UV-5R radios include Menu Item #34, but it DOES NOT WORK! It does NOT lock the transmitter. Both frequencies or channels are monitored, but the transmitter frequency depends upon the A/B toggle switch. |
Re: UV-5R Dual Watch function
Checking the obvious here, but does your display indicate "S" when TDR is ON? [MENU] 007, [MENU], scroll to ON, [MENU], [EXIT] The display now shows the letter "S" to the left of the display. This indicates the radio is in Standby Mode, monitoring both frequencies or channels. As soon as an active signal is received, the "S" is hidden, and a flashing triangle will indicate the active frequency or channel. Now, if there is an active transmission on either of these two frequencies, the green LED will light, and a flashing triangle will indicate which frequency is active. Even if you've toggled the [A/B] button to monitor the frequency on Display B, an active transmission on the Display A frequency will be heard and indicated with a flashing triangle. When the active transmission ends, the green LED will go dark and the flashing triangle will not be displayed. |
