Since updating to iOS 13 the battery on my iPhone 7 is draining much faster than before. It is supposed to be working at 88%. The Books app is supposed to be the big draw at 50% of juice used. However, I only use Books about a half hour a day max. The battery drains 30% overnight when it is not being used at all. I find myself needing to plug in at least twice a day.
Is anyone else having similar problems? My DH's 5S needs replacing. He usually inherits mine when I upgrade. But I don’t want to give him a problem iPhone.
My iPad Pro's battery seems to function same as pre upgrade. The problem for me seems to be restricted to the 7.
Please share any info/ insights you might have.
Thanks,
CD

Hi Cathy.? Normally, if my phone starts doing something that I think it shouldn't, I perform a "forced re-start".? On the 7, you press and hold both the "down volume" and "power" buttons on your phone until the "Apple" logo appears.? This will take a few seconds.? Follow this link, and scroll down to the iPhone 7 instructions :
It's not a bad idea to do a forced re-start after an update, as a general rule.
Hope this?helps, Ken

Cathy, shy would Books be a big drain, unless you are streaming? I listen to downloaded books daily, and while they drain the battery, they do it much shower that email, surfing or navigating.
As with any new OS, have you gone thru your setting and prefs to reset them. A new OS tends to turn things on to take advantage of new iCandy, uh I mean features.
Sent from my iPad,
Brent

? ?Thanks to those sharing ideas.I've already updated to the latest version of 13, rebooted several times and went through Settings to turn off location services for most apps. ???I don’t stream on Books, just read what I have downloaded. ?I keep brightness turned low. This accelerated drain has been going on for days. ?So I’d think any background updating of photos, etc. should be finished. ?Yet in the last three hours with only maybe 10 minutes total of use, the battery is already down 11%.As suggested in the article Pat sent (many thanks) I’ve just turned off lift to wake. ?Maybe that will help.CD

I may be repeating myself, but if you’re near an Apple store, I’d take it in.

Unfortunately, the closest Apple store is over 100 miles away in another state. ?Apple techs were not able to help after 3+ hours on the phone. ?Guess I’m out of luck.

If you can live without the phone for a little while, why not mail it back to Apple? ?Probably be a very good idea to call whoever you spoke with first to let them know it’s coming.

I made an appointment to
take my iPhone to the nearest Apple shop in London
The man failed to see me on time but he did agree that the work
could? be done "while I waited". That was at around 1430. He said
come back at 1900.
He transferred the data on my new telephone to my old one and I
asked if he would? telephone me when the new iPhone was ready for
collection.
So I hung about the Shopping Mall for many hours. When I returned, I
was told that it had been repaired for some time. At which point I
became very angry and clearly expressed my views.

David, that is almost 4 hours of driving. Since I moved from Los Angeles, people where I now live won't do that.?
Apple is good and fast with repairs, but obviously you have not dealt with AppleCare or repairs with Apple. You seldom get to speak to the same person when you call. They often don't make repairs in the stores, it is more often an exchange. AppleCare call centers do not do repairs, and stores do not accept mailed in hardware. Both will arrange expedited shipping to Repair Centers, a third location.
But when was the last time you went 3 to 4 days without a phone, forgetting about social media, and just thinking of critical communications?

And how was he to alert you that it was done sooner? Call you on your iPhone??
Apple has their people quote long and then finish sooner, just in case. Would you have been any happier if they said 2 hours and then took four and a half?

I have an Apple Store 20 minute drive from me, and I *have* had Applecare repairs on Mac computers (but not iPhones or iPads). I’ve had Mac laptops for over 20 years.
The significant problems needed to be sent off (as opposed to fixed in store). One time, with a brand new machine, they pulled it off the repair line to do a complete disassembly for Quality Assurance purposes, but someone forgot to make the notation to “send customer a new machine”, and I had to call to ask about it before they sent a new one.
Another time, I had *a* problem (that I knew about), but when I got it back from Texas, in a matter of 4 days or so, they had replaced the screen, the motherboard, and much of the innards. Under Applecare.

When I bought my current iPhone, I kept the old one (and the charging leads) in case I needed a spare.?

I've had many more good experiences than bad, like you. And as I implied, they like to under promise, and over perform. I have been out of warranty, and had a laptop keyboard replaced. I had taken it in recently before, but the problem had not been fixed. I also _asked_ if anything could be done, not demanded. ,?
