Many thanks,

That’s good, but have you had a chance to look at it? Does it “read” OK?

I tried that - I do not see any iPhone 16 user guide - just several iPhone user guides for earlier iOS versions and one (non-Apple) iOS18 handbook.
Oh, there is an iPhone manual - non-Apple, for $5, and some other $ guides for various aspects. (I'm not interested in fancyfoto stuff)

What I'd hoped for is basic-intro to things like 'what do the buttons do now?' and 'how do I get home-screen w/o 'home button?'
A little one-page-pictogram in their microprint (like the 'magsafe' notice in multiple languages that they're careful to include along with the online-link to the user guide) would have been nice.

If I hadn't bought mine in the store (& gotten basic demo from rep) + had some experience w/ homebuttonless ipad I would have been very puzzled/confused & scared I'd call 911 by mistake or something. (my watch did that once when it went bananas after I messed up some button-pushing)

BJ, yes, it is annoying that there isn’t a full blown PDF file from the manufacturer, that you can download the moment it is releases, BUT the info is available. Just not in the format you want.?

But even if there was and it included everything yu want, you would still miss the information that your Watch and iPhone will dial 911 under certain conditions.?

Yes, I mistakenly read the book I directed you to was listed as iPhone 16, but running iOS 16. Normally, that would be minor, but iOS 18 includes many big changes to the OS and workflow. The iPhone didn’t change though.?

It seems you want an all inclusive manual, but your main request is for a description of what the controls do. There are several spots to find that out on the Apple web site, including the sales page describing the phone.?

You seem to have not formed your other questions. When you do, you can always ask here.?

It is hard for us to answer, when you haven’t formed the question yet.?

Is there a downloadable user guide?

There most certainly is.

Open the Books.app on any Apple device; in the Search field put [iPhone 16 User Guide]; when it shows up in the results, tap [Get].

I tried that, but couldn’t find one for iOS 18. ?The latest version I could find in Books was for iOS 16.5. ?Would you please provide the link to the one for iOS 18?

I do not find a downloadable iOS 18 guide, but there is a hyperlinked online one at <>

Re: iPhone 16

Thanks for the PDF link on the manual -- which doesn't seem to have info on things like what-(physical) buttons-do-what, it's really just an iOS18 guide, which I was already getting acquainted with on my old phone (SE-2). (I haven't read thru all 800+pages yet but a pdf-search for 'button' doesn't mention physical buttons).
[maybe, if I have a few days of nothing I'll put bookmarks & add a toc to the pdf]
?
re Books app/store - already tried on PC, then just now on iPad -- searching for iphone 16 doesn't get anything (not even a "sorry, nothing to see").
?
I'm not a heavy-duty type user & do very little w/ pictures beyond simple snapshots & screengrabs on any of my devices.
I wish in-the-box had included at least a basic picture-diagram of buttons -- whether they are old (but moved) or new (& puzzling).

I know that no tech co includes extensive printed guides anymore but a quick-start/overview/brief-look would be nice, especially if you've bought online instead of in-store where the sales-rep can show it off. (I got mine in-store.)
Oh Well. {sigh}

On a Mac, while in Contact in edit, you uncheck company and it will show the listing by the person’s name. I don’t know if this is possible in your iCloud account, and I believe not on an iPhone. I am back on Catalina, so not knowing with OS or device you have, that is the best I can do.?

Basically, that was an issue I was questioning. I ran into that on an earlier OS pair. IIRC, the OP has not reach 10.15.?

And yes Otto and Jim S, I was confusing memory and storage. I’m a bit busy after finding a friend deceased, and trying to locate his family.?

According to my reference, all the XR’s have 3 GB of memory.

But they came with 64, 128, or 256 GB of storage
