Re: Redistricting Meeting with Councilmember Michael Brown

I stand corrected.? Ward 6 is within the 5% zone (all wards need to have 1/8 of the population, plus or minus 5% of that number)
?
?
But again - what is the alternative?? Opposing the proposal on the table is all fine, but in the absence of a different plan which would increase the populations of both wards 7 and 8, such opposition isn't going to go anywhere, in my opinion.

It¡¯s not actually Ward 6 that needs to shrink in population but Ward 6 has been pegged as the easiest to use to increase 7 & 8 population (which do need to increase.)? It appears that Ward 5 needs to shrink but it¡¯s not geographically located near Wards 7 & 8 so it¡¯s difficult to do a quick move.

That said, I agree, what is the alternative?

My understanding is that ward 6 needs to shrink geographically and wards 7 and 8 each need to grow in order to maintain the legislatively-mandated equal populations across all wards. What specific areas of Ward 6 *should* be moved to ward 7 or 8? ?I understand what the arguments against moving these sections of 6 (i.e. Hill East region) but since something definitely needs to be moved what are the alternative proposals?

Neighbors,

?

Please consider attending this if you are able.? It is important to show CM Brown that we ALL care about the integrity of Ward 6, and that it is not worth his while to vote in favor of any dramatic shifts in population from one Ward to another.

CM Brown is one of our At-Large Council Members, and is up for election next year.

Best,
