Survey: Design Review Program potential changes
Hi neighbors! Below is a survey to collect feedback about updates to the Design Review process which informs how design and construction are permitted. thanks! Robin Design review changes are coming to the City of Seattle. Please tell us your thoughts by November 27: Design Review Program community survey (Survey in English) Responde esta encuesta (Encuesta en Espa?ol) More info: Design review is currently required for most new larger buildings in the City of Seattle. It includes public notice with the ability for neighborhoods to comment on the appearance of new buildings. City of Seattle Staff and volunteer Design Review Boards review new buildings to make sure they meet the Design Guidelines. Recent changes to Washington State law require us to make changes to Seattle¡¯s Design Review program. SEVA Workshop is asking for people¡¯s feedback on several topics, including: Which areas of Seattle should require Design Review for new construction Which types of new construction should go through Design Review When and how people can comment on new construction projects How to update the Design Guidelines to be easier to understand How adding incentives for new construction could improve equity Some of the possible design review program changes could include: Limiting projects to only one public meeting, Streamlining the Design Review process to be quicker and less costly for applicants, and Reducing the number of projects that are required to go through Design Review (if new construction does not require design review, then most new buildings will not include any public comment period or public notice) SDCI¡¯s goal is to update the Design Review program before the Washington state¡¯s House Bill 1293 deadline of June 30, 2025. Take the Design Review Program community survey and add your voice to help shape the future of Seattle. The survey closes November 27. Please share the survey. What¡¯s a zoning map, and why should renters care about it? Join us Nov. 20th (This Wednesday) to find out!
TOMORROW NIGHT! South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA) monthly meetings, 2nd Tuesday 6-7:30: Duwamish River Community Hub 8600 14th Ave S mailing address: 8201 10th Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98108 ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Kate & Tanya - Be:Seattle <tanya@...> Date: Sun, Nov 17, 2024 at 4:26 PM Subject: What¡¯s a zoning map, and why should renters care about it? Join us Nov. 20th (This Wednesday) to find out! To: <SPNAseattle@...> Hey ¡ªThis Wednesday (Nov. 20th) is our Building Tenant Power Workshop! Don't miss this amazing workshop discussing what is a zoning map and why should renters give a hoot! Now (ahem)... What's a zoning map? Sign up here! People who don¡¯t own property probably haven¡¯t thought about Seattle land use and zoning maps. And yet they impact renters a lot! They limit where we can and cannot live. They limit how close our families are to parks and schools. They impact how far we have to go for medical care or to major cultural events. They make it dangerous to cross busy streets to get to the grocery store. Renters make up over 55% of the City of Seattle and because of our zoning, most renters are limited to certain parts of our city and not allowed in others. The City of Seattle wants YOU to give feedback about the One Seattle Zoning Maps. On Wednesday, November 20th, 6-8 PM on Zoom, come learn about Seattle¡¯s Comprehensive Plan! This workshop will help you learn how to comment on the new maps and how to talk to your neighbors about how land use policy impacts renters¡¯ lives. Speakers include from Laura Loe from Share The Cities, Shirley Leung from Jackson Park for All, Ryan Packer from The Urbanist, and special VIP guest speakers from neighboring cities. The comment period for this phase of the comprehensive plan ends on December 20th, so sign-up today and get ready to send your comments in! Sign up here! Please consider making a donation to help Be:Seattle continue to fight for housing justice! Donations are tax deductible. Maritime High School Enrollmen window
Hi neighbors One of DRCC's partners, the Maritime High School in the Highline District, has opened its enrollment window. MHS is a public school which uses project-based learning and focuses on a wide array of maritime jobs and careers. All of its classes are taught through the lens of the maritime industry. They reserve 49% of their spaces for kids outside of Highline, with the intention of providing pathways to Maritime for Duwamish Valley kids. There are a handful of South Park kids there currently but it is a great option if your kids wants different things than the high schools you are considering. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to connect me to someone at the school. -Robin robin@...
