First SY arrivals
Recent additions to the First South Yorkshire fleet are:
StreetDecks 35263 and 35273 SL67 VWO/VXA) from Leeds (Bramley) - the first of a number of 67 plate StreetDecks expected to move over once the new Electroliners for Bramley are in service (gather the first few have been delivered recently). Volvo B9TL¡¯s 37553/4/6/7/8/9 (MX09 GYF/GYH/LML/HUO/HUU/HUP) from First Manchester (Oldham). These are for Doncaster, though 37554/8/9 have initially entered service at OG. 37551/5/60 (MX09 HUK/LMK/LMF) are to follow (and 37552 has been in the fleet a while). Also expected in the near future are B7RLEs 69506-11 (BJ11 XHY/EBV/XHZ/EBU/EBZ), 69529/31 (BD11 CFJ/CFE) and 69537/8/9 (BF63 HDN/DU/DO) also from First Manchester. These have recently been repainted in to "Bee Network" yellow for use on the new First operations in Rochdale from the end of the month but this is believed to be just a temporary measure until newer vehicles arrive for that fleet. These new arrivals are expected to release the E400s from Doncaster for cascade (to Halifax apparently), allow the withdrawal of some of the older B9s and release some Streetlites for cascade within First. Sheffield Connect / South Pennine CT
Ordered by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and to be placed with South Pennine CT as the current contracted operator of the Sheffield Connect service (which is to be revised in to 2 separate routes around the city centre from 8th April) are 4x BYD/Enviro 200 EVs. These are due to be delivered tomorrow, and will be on display in Sheffield Interchange around midday where new charging points have recently been installed. LF24 ZNM is one of the 4, pictured on the South Pennine Facebook page -? Ian |
Supertram / First SY
A broken rail at Manor Top on the Supertram network is resulting in no trams operating between Sheffield Station and Halfway on the blue route, with the purple route (Sheffield - Herdings Park) suspended.? This is expected to be the situation until at least Friday. An emergency tram replacement bus service B1 between Sheffield and Halfway is being operated by First with a PVR of 6.? To facilitate this, 6 vehicles have gone in to Olive Grove on loan: Streetlites 63104/6 (SM13 NCE/J) from Doncaster depot (then due to move to Manchester) E200MMC 67148 (YY16 YLV) from Potteries (though was new to Olive Grove) Steetdeck 35179 (SK16 GUW) from Leicester E400s 33670 (SN12 AEO) and 33692 (SN12 AGV) from Oldham (then due to move elsewhere in First Group). South Yorkshire Service Changes in April
Some quite major changes planned in April largely on services operated by First in Doncaster (full scale re-numbering of routes) and the "express" services between Sheffield and Rotherham (and on to Doncaster... farewell X78). Full details at - for once largely a positive set of changes! Ian |
Stagecoach Yorkshire 29/01
The first of the new Yutong E12s destined for Rawmarsh depot is now in the country and I gather at Pelican's facility at Castleford for fitting out (Pelican are the UK Yutong agent). Delivery of all 23 - to be fleet numbers 73001-23 - was due by the end of March to allow all to enter service in April, but gather that won't now happen due to the situation in the Red Sea and the boats from China carrying these having to make a lengthy diversion. Once all in service they will convert routes 22X (Barnsley - Rotherham) and 221 (Doncaster - Rotherham) to electric - or "electro" per the livery they will carry - operation. Ian |
First SY / WY / Manchester movements
Hi all A few planned movements I've been made aware of affecting the local fleets, largely triggered by the ceasing of First's operations in Oldham next month and starting of a new, but smaller operation in Rochdale at the same time as part of the Greater Manchester franchising. Due to leave Doncaster soon are Streetlites 63041 and 63104/5/6 (63041/105 already taken out of use at DO).? These initially go to Oldham and then I gather are for eventual use at the new Rochdale operation.?? Coming the other way are a 7x Volvo B9TLs, partly to replace the Streetlites and also to release the 4x E400s at Doncaster (33858-61) to move to "West Yorkshire" (I suspect Halifax?).? The latter - presumably after some internal shuffles around in West Yorkshire - releases some StreetDecks from West Yorkshire in to Olive Grove. Separately I gather 12x E400s are moving from Oldham to Halifax to replace the remaining B7TLs still in use at West Yorkshire Hope that makes sense! Ian |

AI generated timetables
An interesting blog by Roger French for those interested on the impacts of Artificial Intelligence assisted development of timetables being rolled out nationally by First.

Welsh's, Upton (WY)
Now formally announced is the closure of Welsh's, Upton in the summer due to the retirement of the owners.
The fleet is to be sold off, and the depot/land has been sold for housing development. Sad to see a well respected, quality local operator go but understand their reasons for not wanting to sell the family name on (the operator John references in the article below was Clarksons of South Elmsall). Re: Bradford Interchange
Just hope it's sorted out soon.?

One wonders if the recent extensive carriageway resurfacing works - directly above the 'basement' (former depot underneath the interchange) has anything to do with this? Either way, I suspect the bus station side of Bradford Interchange is going to remain closed for some time (the train station side is unaffected, though can only be accessed by a side entrance, not via the main interchange concourse). Hulleys of Baslow renumbering
Can anyone add any further renumbers to the list below. The "logic" is the first 2 digits are the overall capacity (seating?+ standing), the 2nd digits the former Hulley's fleet number. Observed so far are: 3619 - YK05 CAO 4504 - YJ11 EJA 5025 - YJ57 XWP 5714 - YX11 AEN (new addition, E200 ex VisionBus, Bolton) 6311 - SW64 XAR 6323 - YX11 CSY 9112 - BV23 NVH Ian |

Hulleys
Since Hulley's purchase of Go-Coach (see?) last year, it appears they've changed their numbering system. Hulley's fleet numbers are now 4 digits. The first two, the total capacity (including standing), with the last two digits being the original number.? In my opinion, this one is worse than the Globe system. Anyway, I'm sure it works for them. Tony |
