New Player 26
Howdy y'all: My name is Vivian. I've been a fan of ASL for over sixteen years without ever playing it, but our time here is too short not to properly indulge our hobbies. Are there any face-to-face groups (or individuals) that play regularly in the South Shore/Greater Boston area and wouldn't mind teaching a new player?

Nor'easter 2024 6
Hi guys, We currently have only 6 guys signed up and we are heading to December. I just wanted to post this here by way of reminder that the Noreaster is going off March 14-17th. Details below. Thanks, Carl Hello all, The twenty-eighth Nor'easter will be held in Springfield MA between the dates of 03/14-03/17 at the La Quinta by Wyndham, Springfield MA at 100 Congress St. Springfield MA 01104. The La Quinta is 25 minutes from Bradley Airport which does have International Flights. While there is no shuttle service, players in need of a ride can always contact me, Carl Nogueira at carlhnogueira@.... Guest rooms are 99.00 dollars per night, for either two Queen Beds or one King, or 129.00 per night for the three suites we have set aside in the room block. Suites are first come/first serve. If they are popular enough, I will have that part of the room block expanded. All info for the tournament is here: Yankee ASL (yankeegamers.org). Please note that in lieu of calling the hotel there is a link to reserve your rooms at the Yankee ASL link given. The tournament format will be as in prior years, with Thursday being open gaming, or if attendees wish to head over to the Basketball Hall Of Fame which is in town, that could be time well spent as well. Friday begins the Main Tournament and a Friday Mini, which counts toward the Main Tournament. The scenario choices are expected out by January 1st as the Main Tournament is a scenario list driven, 5 round tournament. SK play is welcome and encouraged, although there is no tournament play for that. It is more for encouraging further learning of the game. Please contact Carl at the carlhnogueira@... email to set up SK games and 1st Round ASL Tournament games ahead of time, so that you will get some SK games in, or get matched with the round one player of your choice. New players who feel a little uncomfortable playing are encouraged to look on and learn while others play. Also, please, unless both participants in an ASL tournament match are amenable to spectators, we ask that you refrain from that. The simple rule of thumb is to ask the players if they mind. I can't think of a time when anyone has been told no, but it is always best practice to ask. Better still though, is to let the tournament director (me) know that you are new, and believe me, people are happy to help you learn. If you are new to the game, it is not about winning the tournament, but about learning the game and we encourage you to do so. So please consult the site, let me know if any questions or issues arise and we hope to see you there as we did with 50 fellow ASLers last year. Thanks and roll low.

YASL Support Appeal - 2023 8
Hi Everyone - it's that time of year where I reach out and ask for your financial support to keep the YASL list up and running here on groups.io. The fee is $20/month, which for the features we get, is very reasonable. I hope you will consider a donation. To pay via PayPal you can go to this link https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/cwtewks (yes - I finally got this right the first time - you'll see MY face and a pic of some ASL modules on a shelf) Please pick the "Friend/Family" option so that I can avoid paying taxes on this stuff. :) If Venmo is your jam, then you can Venmo me at @Chuck-Tewksbury with your Venmo app or online from https://venmo.com Your support is GREATLY APPRECIATED! Roll low and thank you, Chuck

Tournament scenario lists 22
Hi all, I was at ASLOK last week (don't ask...), and talked to several guys about Nor'easter. Something I heard multiple times was guys not wanting to come to tournaments with defined scenario lists. They preferred more open tournaments, like ASLOK and Winter Offensive. Which got me thinking. Maybe a defined scenario list is not such a great option. One concern I foresee is the possibility of someone choosing an unbalanced scenario. Perhaps there is a solution that lies somewhere in the middle. Rather than have defined scenario choices for each round, we specify a pool of scenarios from which players can choose. We could also allow the option of choosing outside of the pool at the TD's discretion. Thoughts? Kedge

Konigsberg Questions on Redeployment
Hello, I requested official answers from the game designer/publisher, but I figured I¡¯d ask if anyone here knew the answers to these two questions. We have two Konigsberg, The Bear¡¯s Revenge HASL questions on how to interpret redeployment during D5.132 (i), (ii) and (v). (1) In regards to D5.132 (i) and (ii), when redeploying must units stop in the nearest FEBA location, or can they continue up to their maximum redeployment range? (2) In regards to D5.132 (v), what is the definition of ¡°behind¡± the FEBA? Does it include the FEBA hex itself, or is it the hexes behind the FEBA hex? Thanks, ¡ªPaul & Larry

Finally the Nor'Easter has a home for 2024 3
Folks, The Nor'easter will be at the La Quinta Hotel in Springfield MA from 3/14-3/17 for 2024. I am waiting for the sales manager to send a link so you guys can make your own reservations without having to go through the Phone lines. I will post all pertinent information as soon as I have it. It's a good deal for us and we are looking forward to it. It was VERY tough finding a spot after our old digs priced themselves out of consideration. We finally did it though and many thanks to Ralph MacDonald who got this location for us. Once again proving that Ralph is not a YASL HOF member just on his good looks. :-) Thanks Ralph. More to come. Carl Nogueira

Events on YASL list 2
Hi folks - I was tinkering on the groups.io site this morning and saw I could add events to the list. I put in Tussle and Nor'Easter and would be happy to add any events you'd like to see. I may add the monthly game garage but not until the new year as I'm likely going to scale things back this winter on that front. Roll Low! -Chuck
