NYS ASL News from the Front Dateline May 11, 2025
? ASL Scenario of the Day: BFP-063 Typhoon of Steel May 11, 1945 New York State ASL () Our team is currently working on the scenarios for the Main Tournament (Although the round themes have been published). This should be published in August 2025 (although more likely September....you know how things work).? One round I am very excited about is the Best of Tom Morin. Tom as you know has done a lot for our game and is well known for his scenario designs and campaign games like Valour of the Guards and Operation Turnscrew. I asked him to pick some of his personal favorite scenarios that he designed and he came up with a ¡°greatest hits¡± collection of very good scenarios. Truth be told I am hoping to entice him to come to the tourney this year! We added a new page to the website highlighting Joe Leoce¡¯s build of this year¡¯s main tournament trophy. In each News from the Front I will post a few pictures of Joe¡¯s progress; as you know he does exceptional work and I know we would all like to have one of his pieces in our war rooms. Paul Sidhu will be running an ASL Bingo game in rounds 1-4. The first player to achieve bingo in each round will receive an addition raffle ticket free of charge. More on this at the tourney.? For those who arrive Wednesday I am arranging a special tour of the USS Slater, the last Destroyer Escort afloat in the United States. She is remarkably well preserved (I know first hand) and all proceeds from this tour go towards the continued maintenance of this amazing piece of history. ?As always please check out our sponsor page and please support them! ? Your obedient servant Pooch |
Re: An ASL friend has passed...
You bet Mike, I loved Kiri, even when dice went wizzing by my head! I played Kiri man times but was lucky to beat him 1 out of 3 or 4 times, he was better than me and usually at least as good with the dice but if they kept abusing him, watch out, they might be flying by! We all miss him and yes, be happy when you play anyone still. I got to play Tom Morin (VASL), Steve Johns (ftf) and Steve Anderson (VASL) this week and have the same lineup for next week. My ASL cup runneth over, I have played as much, if not more, ASL since I got sick and retired in 2018 than from 1985 - 2017 combined. I never throw my precision dice, no matter what they are doing to me, Vic.? ![]() ![]()

Hi Carl, I have not had any contact Info for Allen in over a decade, he left the Bunker not long after Kiri did. Joe might have a better idea than I, sadly, Vic.

Re: An ASL friend has passed...
You bet Ralph, Kiri was awesome at making SSRs as close to following the rulebook as possible, along with being able to understand it. With him and Allen in the club, we had an answer for just about anything ASL. Before I had experts like Steve Pleva and Paul Sidhu for rules questions and strategy tips, we had Kiri and Allen. I miss them both! I will make a game date here in Pittsfield soon and look forward to visiting you this Summer as well. See you at some point, roll low, Vic.? ![]() ![]()
