message moderation 2
As an FYI, groups.io forces you to pick an anti-SPAM setting that requires moderation of the first message that someone posts. I'll be doing my best to stay on top of it so messages aren't delayed. If you DO see a delay, it's likely because I just haven't bumped it along yet. I can also tag members so they will not be moderated at all. I'll be doing that regularly until we get up to speed as well. Best, Chuck

What have you been playing lately? 14
I'll kick things off with this topic! I've had my heart in Stalingrad as of late. On VASL I am running an RB CG 1 that just started, RO CG 1 that literally JUST started last night and I've got a VotG CG running in person with Andy. Love this game Moonpie!

Updated Dispatch #50 3
Updated Dispatch #50 Hello everyone, Vic from Dispatches from the Bunker here. After Dispatch #50 went out a couple weeks ago Carl Nogueira discovered a calculation in his article had been typoed & entered wrong & the result was it carried into other parts of the article, making several pages that needed to be fixed. Carl does great work & worked hard on the article & then how to fix this. This looked like more than just mentioning the problem in an errata box & was screwing up an otherwise awesome article on the Dinant HASL.. So I decided the best course was fixing Carl's edits & update the article & resending the issue, which is easy in pdf. We also added an SSR onto the RO scenario from Andy, defining the 8+1 which is in VotG but not the standard rules. So bottom line is I am sending a revised & updated copy of #50, see attached in your e-mail if still a subscriber. We proof these newsletters for 2 or 3 weeks & still stuff can leak through, most of the time the errata box is enough to take care of it, this I felt was not & needed more. We do are best but are human. So enjoy the updated copy & delete the original so as not to get confused. Thanks again for your understanding, interest & continued support, it is much appreciated. Take care & Enjoy! Be safe & well, Vic.

Anyone need a WWII tank? 2
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1943-sherman-m4a1/ Just under two hours of bidding left. If you are lucky, can get this for under $500,000. Imagine this bad boy parked outside on Greenfield Bunker or the Tewkscave! Regards, Cole

YASL group type 8
HI folks - Now that we're over on groups.io I had a couple questions. - I setup the group as a Premium group. This allows a lot of features like Event Calendars, Polls and 20GB of storage. (Among others.). The first month is free and is $20/month after that. - A Basic group is essentially only email. Very little storage and none of the other goodies. While our traffic is light, I think those other features could be useful. I'd like to stick with "Premium" for a year and see how it goes. If you agree, I'd ask that you consider making a SMALL donation of $1 which you can send in via my PayPal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/cwtewks . Please comment along this thread with your thoughts and such. I'm happy to foot the bill for now while the group decides. We have only 79 members as of this point. I did send an invite to every email that had been on the Yahoo group, which numbered 337 total email addresses. I may send out a second wave of invites in the coming week or so as well. Best, Chuck

Chuck, I threw you a few bucks for the effort (Thank you). But, I am confused why we would duplicate an effort that is being done (or could be done) through the club's Facebook page? Speaking of the Facebook page, it is in serious need for updates. The 2018 tourney is still pinned. Could we get a few game reports posted? Pictures of ASL "problems" to solve? It will keep those of us who are not actively playing connected to the community. At this point, I would even consider Joe G's "Carlos Danger" pictures something. So, the MMP sale just ended - what did everyone pick up? Regards, Cole

Noreaster info and scenario list 2
Hi Bruce, Here are the dates and the scenario lists and a general blurb. Blurb: This year, due to the continuing effects of the pandemic, the Nor'easter will be run in a VASL format. The dates are as follows: 3/18 Open Gaming 3/19-3/22 Main Tournament We are not planning on running any mini's this year. If I hear otherwise, I will advise immediately. Tournament Site 2
Hello guys, Bruce already has the scans up and the fliers up. The open gaming scans are pending. IMPORTANT NOTE: We are still checking into T-Shirt availability, so give us a couple of days to sort that out and I will advise when we are sure if we are doing shirts this year. See the site here: Yankee ASL (yankeegamers.org) Please see the Downloadable resource section to the right. It has the scenario scans. Thanks, Carl

Nor'Easter Status 15
Hello gents, While some vaccines are going to be starting to get rolled out by months end, I have enough faith in bureaucracy to believe this can be screwed up a fare-thee-well. I believe we will have to cancel the Nor'easter this year also and again revert to a VASL format. This will be held on the same days as the normal tournament, which is to say Open Gaming: 3/18 and Main tournament 3/19-3/21. Due to version stability, please use 6.5.1 for the tournament in conjunction with VASSAL 3.2.17. This sucks, but not quite enough time to make this work. I will notify the hotel. I will go ahead and run the VASL version of this year's tournament. Ralph, could you let me know if you can manage the VASL setup end of things this year? Since this is just a VASL tournament, no entry fees etc. this year. Mike A, anything to add? Thanks guys, announcements will be made on the usual platforms in short order. Carl

AHIKS Match Maker 18
From the comfort of Tewk Manor, Chuck has taken over the match responsibilities for the Avalon Hill group! Thanks Chuck for doing this. With him and the new president being from Massachusetts would there be any consideration of a historic Avalon Hill tourney (when meeting in person becomes safe again)? A full Civilization or Diplomacy game! Regards, Cole

Virtual Nor'easter XXV announcement 22
Virtual Nor¡¯easter XXV announcement Announcement: The Yankee ASL group (https://www.yankeegamers.org/) announces the virtual Nor¡¯easter XXV tournament! Due to the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic the 25th version of our Nor¡¯easter ASL tournament will be held virtually via VASL. This will be a ¡°live¡± event on the same weekend as already planned for Nor¡¯easter XXV: March 18th-21st 2021. Full details and descriptions are below. Description: The YASL Nor'easter is New England's regional ASL championships. It is normally held annually near Boston, MA. In 2021 it will be held virtually via VASL. It is a yearly get-together of people in the New England area, and now worldwide, that play Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) and Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kit (SK). The Nor'easter is hosted and directed by the boys from The Bunker and the Yankee ASL Group. Since we are virtual this year there are some changes from the usual setup. First, the tournament is 100% free! No hotel means no registration fee! But there will still be prizes for the top 3 finishers in the Main Tournament. As of this writing, we do not have any mini tournaments planned but if that changes we will post an update. For up to date announcements and friendly banter we recommend you join our mailing list on groups.io either from our main website at https://www.yankeegamers.org/ or at /g/yasl. The sign up page and information is always available at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2021.php Schedule and Tournament: Currently we only have the Main Tournament scheduled with Carl Nogueira as the Tournament Director. Being a virtual tournament we expect players from many time zones so our usual round times have changed. Thursday March 18th is reserved for open gaming. We have a list of recommended Thursday scenarios available for download at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2021.php. If you are interested in Thursday play, we recommend you join our mailing list (as described above) and request a matchup. The Main Tournament will be held as follows: Round 1 Friday March 19 11AM EST-4PM EST Round 2 Friday March 19 5PM EST-until you finish Round 3 Saturday March 20 11AM EST-4PM EST Round 4 Saturday March 20 5PM-until you finish Round 5 Sunday March 21 11AM EST- until you finish Full Main Tournament rules are available at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreasterRules.php. Please note we will post updates on how the rules function in a virtual environment. As of this writing, we will require players to use VASSAL 3.2.17 running VASL 6.5.1 as that appears to be the most stable version for the most players (http://vasl.info/). This too may be subject to change as we draw closer to the start date. The full scenario list has already been published at https://www.yankeegamers.org/noreaster/noreaster2021.php with scenario downloads. You will see some new YASL scenarios that have not been published yet. Around the same time as Nor¡¯easter XXV we will be releasing the YASL pack 2 with more great scenarios and 3 new boards. Thank your LFT for helping us with this production! Please head on over and sign up. Check here, on our website or mailing list for more information and updates. Thank you, Yankee ASL and the Bunker Crew

Question on board NP3 15
Hey Folks, I was looking at board NP3 and has some questions on terrain features. Not sure if groups.io allows attachments but I'll try. :) In hex V8 and W9 there is a contour. Is this a hill? Y4, Y5, Z4 and FF6 is another example. In hexes S3-S5 there is another contour with a greenish color. Is this a valley? Thanks! MikeS
