Re: My laugh for the day. How to sound like a LID
That list is a little dated (phone patch?? Haven't used one of those since the '60s.)? Perhaps we can bring it into the 21st century.
?
* When you would normally pause in your transmission, such as when there might be a comma or a period in a sentence, give out your callsign.? Try to maximize the number of times you give your callsign in each transmission.? That way people will never forget you.
?
* Use an HT with its rubber duckie antenna inside the vehicle as a mobile.? Don't EVER use an external antenna or a speaker/mike -- make everybody strain to understand you.
?
* Use a Chinese HT with its rubber duckie antenna inside the vehicle as a mobile.? Note:? this is permissible for the first full week after getting your Technician ticket, which gives you enough time to obtain a real radio.
?
* When people complain about the signal from your Chinese HT with its rubber duckie antenna inside a vehicle, blame it on the repeater, interference due to propagation or intermod, or the ever-increasing noise floor.
?
* If there's a conversation going on, be sure to break in with a completely off-topic transmission.? No matter what the topic was, keep interrupting with random, off-topic comments.
?
* When required to give your callsign, say it as fast as possible -- the object is to get it over with as quickly as you can, not to allow others to actually know what it is.
?
* Don't read the manual for your radio -- that way you can avoid all those tricky simplex requests or suggestions to boost your power output.
?

2-23-2019 update
Folks,
I was at the repeater site for awhile today and I think I figured out what the problem is. The RIM lite connected to the scom 7330 crapped the bed. I have a spare but I forgot to bring it. I did manage to relink the 900 machine. The ERS is still broken in half. wylie is linked to 146.62 and 444.850 is linked to decatur, but they dont meet in the middle till I get that interface replaced. Perhaps in the next trip. jay w5gm |

Lunch @ Cowtown Hamfest
As usual, I'll be "brown-bagging" lunch on Saturday at the convention center.? I'd like to attend the North Texas Section session from 11-12 (it is supposed to feature a "meet the candidates for Section Manager",) and a session starting at 1pm, so there's really no option to go offsite for me.? I suspect the onsite food purveyor will once again be 1) slow, 2) expensive, 3) limited in choices, and 4) low quality, and I can fix all four issues with a lunch from home.? With the temperature forecast for Saturday, I might not even need an insulated cooler for the brown bag in my vehicle!
Any other "ERS'ers" are welcome to join in for a "face-to-face QSO."? I'll have my HT on and listening to the output frequency of the 70cm Grapevine repeater (444.850MHz) -- experience says that it's difficult to access the repeater from inside the convention center, so the best idea is to use simplex (just remember to turn off tone squelch if you normally run that way.)? If it's been awhile since you operated your HT that way, now's a good time to get into the manual and figure out how. 73, John DE K5JY |

There will be one left who is still on death row. ?I'm good with him staying there. ?It certainly isn't as nice as the place they escaped from. |

Re: tanners electronics
The OM and I were just at Tanner buying parts for our Allstar nodes and asked about the lease.

They told us the current lease goes until 2020, at which time they might renew the lease at the current location or they might end up moving, but they ARE NOT going out of business. 73 de WG1GEM (And WE5TR - he’s sitting in the car next to me) On Nov 20, 2018, at 08:56, Paul Stofer <stofer@...> wrote: |
