Upgrade OS from High Sierra on 2017 iMac

About browsers:

I still use Brave and Safari for sites where they still work.

For other sites I use Chrome: Version 116.0.5845.187 (Official Build) (x86_64).?
So far I've only run into a couple of sites that had reduced function in my Chrome. But every time I use it it gives me this message: "To get future Google Chrome updates, you'll need macOS 10.15 or later."

I followed those links but couldn't figure out how to download that Chromium.? Brent may have eventually navigated those pages, but they're a complete mystery to me. Help!

Patsy

Yea, I had to ask for help, and would need help to to it again, and I¡¯m only 71.

Patsy:
?
I also went to the link Randy provided and figured any browser that makes it that hard to figure out how to download it, can't possibly be user friendly.
?
I can't use Safari or Brave with Yahoo mail with HIgh Sierra. Safari simply won't function due to the High Sierra OS I am using and Brave - regardless of the various ad blocker/privacy settings I use - keeps resulting in Yahoo mail popping up and telling me I am violating the terms of use of the new version of Yahoo mail because I am using ad blockers!
?
The more things are getting "fixed" by some of these updated "improved" outfits, the poorer they function.

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

That is not a failure of the browser, but a problem with yahoo not following the users wishes, and not following industry standard. I too, use yahoo e-ddresses. I keep having a variation the number of unread emails between my Mac and iPhone. I thought that Mail.app syncing was not working properly. Then I noticed it wa only with my yahoo accounts, even though my my accounts ae IMAP.?

Go to:

The latest release, right at the top, is numbered: 1303823

Download the file called:

¡°1303823.³ú¾±±è"

It¡¯s near the top. I¡¯m not sure why this is so hard and scaring people.

Before I had no idea what to click on. This time you told me. Thank you.

Got it! Downloaded okay. But...

¡°Chromium.app¡± can¡¯t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

"Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers."
So I found my security prefs and went through a couple of steps to tell it to open.

Next challenge: It wanted me to sign in to my Google account. I haven't used my Google account for ages! It's tied to an old business email I no longer use. But I found what was needed. Unfortunately the Captcha phoned me with a code and the ring woke up my partner. (I wished I had waited till daytime to try to get in.)

So, Chromium is now on my computer, I'm signed in, and I was able to go to a couple of websites.

I don't want to know now. But sometime soon I'll ask you about getting Chromium set up.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Thank you for getting me this far. (And I definitely DON'T want to upgrade my OS myself!!!)

Patsy

I think the issue might be that there is no link to a .dmg file (the usual Mac format for app installations) or even something clearly labelled ¡°for macOS 10.xx.yy¡±.

How does one tell which of those applies to which macOS version anyway?

The source code is only for programmers. So it can be ignored

The other two files are compressed archives of exactly the same thing. Your choice of format. The one in Zip format is a bigger download (because they used a less effective compression method), but it¡¯s should be a familiar format to every Mac user, as Zip is built into the Mac OS.

Thanks, Randy, but I know all that. What I¡¯m asking is, ¡°where does it tell us that this is for OS X 10.14?¡±

And as a long time Mac user, I was not able to identify or move around easily, as much of it was written in shorthand that a coder might use. It was like trying to read Gaelic, by a person of Slavic decent.?
