Reinstall OS

I used disk utility to wipe an old MacBook Air. I didn't realize I world be wiping the Operating System. I've Googled, and am attempting to solve the problem but the computer gets hung up while trying to connect to my wifi.

Can anyone help?

I cannot remember what year this is. It's an 11" and probably 10 or 11 years old.

Thanks.

Debbi?

I have tried the suggestions in that link, Bev. The computer gets hung up during the process. The most recent development is that when I¡¯m asked what drive to install the OS on, there is no drive available to choose.

I¡¯m going to keep trying. I¡¯m going to explore migrating my newer Mac OS to the older one, although I don¡¯t have much confidence that will work.

Try Internet Recovery:

? Power on your Mac (or restart if already on).
? Press and hold the Cmd + Option + R keys immediately on hearing the startup chime.
? Keep the keys pressed down until you see the Internet Recovery message on the screen: Starting Internet Recovery. This may take a while.
? Follow the prompts to complete the recovery process.

Depending on the new one, and the old one, you may be able to boot the old one into Target Mode, connect the two, and wipe and reformat the drive in the old one using Disk Utility in the new one.

Yes, and this won¡¯t help this time but is something to think about going forward: some (many?) of us keep bootable clone backups. If the worst happens, we can boot the Mac from the clone and then reformat the Mac¡¯s drive, reinstall the OS, etc. These days you can buy 1 TB portable SSD drives such as the Samsung T7 for not much money.
