Creating an Outlook Rule for Macsupportcentral #Mail

Hi, everyone.

I'm struggling with creating a rule that moves messages from this group into a MacSupport folder I created in Outlook. i have a long list of working rules but this group brings a challenge for Outlook.

Messages from the group arrive with two addresses: one from the poster and one from Sent by [email protected]. Outlook is not seeing the second address so it fails.

Messages from users can have two forms: just the author's name, the author's name plus "via Groups,io". I can make a working rule for the second form using "group.io"

Messages with just the author's name will require using that name since Outlook isn't seeing the Sent by address. Needless to say, creating a rule for every subscriber to the group is out of the question.

Kindly share your thoughts and suggestions.

Cheers
Leigh

Is there a way to get a daily digest instead of individual posts?

Hi,

Even though I am not symptomatic with John`s maladies, I
would also prefer a daily digest, rather than numerous messages from those
techno wizards of whom I will always hold in high esteem, knowing
I will never qualify.

Btw, I am usually hesitant to upgrade my MacBook Air to the latest operating systems,
in this case "Catalina," without waiting a few months in case a few bugs pop up.

Is this somewhat prudent or unnecessary?

Rick, aka ballyrick.

Have your rule look for [macsupportcentral] (in brackets) in the subject of the message. That will work every time.

Thanks, Dave. You got me headed in a new direction. Your suggestion didn't work however I noted that Outlooks "To:" line is always "[email protected]".

My new working rule is "Any recipient" contains "[email protected]".

Additionally, I changed my macsupportcentral preference to "Daily Journal". That, more than anything, will set things to how they were.

Cheers

Login to groups.io and under subscription, make the changes you need.

Since, in some groups on groups.io changes the From I wrote a new rule:

If any of the following conditions are met:
__To__ contains?[email protected]
Perform the following actions:
Move Message to mailbox:?macsupportcentral io

Note the to as opposed to from. I used the extra io in the mailbox name to differentiate it from the old yahoo group. I plan to archive the old. I might later add a condition of Subject contains [macsupportcentral], if I find I need it, but left it out to avoid confusion at the moment. Don't for get the order of the rules matters.

Simpler and fewer rules is better.

Brent

May I suggest starting your own thread, instead of trying to steal someone else's?

You can do this by going into your groups.io account and changing your prefs.

I just simply made a copy of the old rule for the YahooGroup and changed the address. Works fine. Even sent it to the same mailbox.

That is where I started, but it did not work Barry, since the from shows the members eddy, not the group's.

Look at the from on this email. it is not from?macsupportcentral, but?"Brent via Groups.Io" <whodo678@...>

You can change it to "to", but I also had
Subject contains [macsupportcentral]
which could cause a problem since I also had a rule to move any old MSC emails to an separate folder.

You start a new topic (or thread) by starting from a new email. You should never just reply to an existing email then change the subject thereby ¡°hijacking¡± the email. I don¡¯t believe you can fix this by changing your prefs.

That baffled me too. What do a member's prefs have to do with threads?

I'm sorry if I was not clear. The prefs was in response to digest vs individual emails, not hijacking.

To change your message. Type, go to the ¡°Subscription¡± page. (Coick on #ubscription¡± on the left edge of the screen. Does that help?

If there is a daily digest available, instead of receiving numerous e-mails?
at various times during the day, would someone please walk me through?
the process, so I might set it up for myself?

I'm using Yahoo Mail and receiving far too many messages for this infrequent participant.

Many Thanks,
Ballyrick

Go to the GroupIO page to log in (/groups), go to your subscriptions where you will see a box next to each group. ?Click that box and you will see a checkmark in it. ?Then click on the Actions button to select the delivery method you prefer.

As I posted yesterday:

To set your delivery prefs to digest or email or other:

- sign into your groups.io account
- click on Your Groups in upper tool bar
- on the line of the group you want to change, and click on the item under Delivery
- click on the Email Deliver format you want
- click on save

You can also reach this of this if you have it on the left column.

This also appears to be where you unsubscribe.

There have been at least 3 recent posts on how to since yesterday.?

Perhaps some didn't frequent the Yahoo site so are less likely to visit the one either?

Just go to </g/macsupportcentral>, sign in, then select?Subscriptions.?

Please also have a look around and see what else is there!
