Update on my problems using CCC to back up to external hard drive. Earlier tried to erase external and it hung computer. Now went back and erased the partition drive. Did so quickly. Then erased the external drive. Did so quickly. Formatted as suggested. Now tried to backup using CCC to the external. Get message that it cannot do that as it has no Mac OS. I have used CCC for some years without a problem. Using disk utility I can’t find anything related to scheme.

Have you updated to Catalina? Check on Disk Utilities, if you have, for changes.

Have updated to Catalina and updated CCC to most recent version. Have used disk utility

To my knowledge yes. Has worked fine until Catalina. The issue is related to partitioning. Playing around with this has led only to my computer crashing. I have one partition volume of my external and time machine backs up to this without problem. So don’t believe defective drive or cable.

My problem now is I am quite hard of hearing and using a phone fo me very difficult. My wife uses phone for me but she is illiterate regarding tech issues. People speak too fast and gals with high pitched voices escape me completely. Due aging and having broken both legs in last two years I am very limited to where I can go. Will soon give up driving completely.
