Re: Signature images #MacSupportCentral

I actually like seeing Jim¡¯s photo. ?It makes the message more personal,?and makes me want to contribute something to the discussion (though?I¡¯m still using a 2010 27¡± iMac running OS X 10.5.5). ?It feels to me more?like a discussion with people, not just barebones advice. ?Just one?person¡¯s view on it.

Thanks for the support.

Oh, and Jim, how do you remove the metadata from the photo?

Ah!
A Mac Support question!

One of my most useful utilities on the Mac is the GraphicConverter app.
In the Mac App Store:<>
On the author¡¯s website:
<>
This App is $40 shareware, but the author has a Test for Free version.

It lets you convert between almost any known graphics formats; it also does a lot of the basic editing operations, like adjusting brightness, contrast, histogram, scaling, un-skew, rotate, and of course crop.

If you want to save as JPEG (perhaps my most frequent operation with it), you can adjust Quality from 100% to 5%, and turn on, or off, many parameters, including various metadata and EXIF data.

So what else is good? I sometimes use Duck Duck Go when I don¡¯t want google to make my choice by how much advertisers pay them.

Please excuse the email quoted below. I thought I deleted it. And we don't need any more venom on this thread. The List Owner suggested where to get a image, and I later posted how to get its address.

I hope we can close this and another other thread,?Signature images #MacSupportCentral.

Go to?/account?page=viewprofile, if needed click on the Identity tab on the left. If you have added a image to your profile, two-finger click on your image, then select?Copy Image Address.

What a shame it is that I cannot figure out how to not send it just to you.

It serves no valuable purpose, a signature with your Mac and OS would?do more.

Obviously, I disagree.

When someone starts to ramble on without identifying their system?assuming others know, is just wrong, and I am just as guilty as others.

The majority of my posts are trying to answer other people¡¯s questions,?and what is relevant is *their* system, not mine.
I presume that when I start to ramble on about a problem I¡¯m having?without stating my system(s) and hardware, that you will faithfully?remind me.
?
Others might not use such a small image.

The list could require an image no larger than X kB.

In fact, looking at mine, I discovered that MOST of its size is embedded?metadata. Leave that out and it drops to 2 kB.

And simply by changing from rich text to plain text, I can SAVE 2 kB in the message size.

Re: ! Update Required #Privacy

Bob, look at the sentence:

"Your version of Yahoo provided search is out of date."

Does that seem like normal grammar? Seems like social engineering, leading to malware.

If it did not immediately come up when you entered a known good site, then it probably bad. You are running a recent OS. I get it often because I am running 10.7.5 on a 2008 MBP.

There is a current hack that involves Chromium.

By clicking OK you agree to install Chromium, set Yahoo provided search as your default search on all of your compativle browsers and accept the Yahoo Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and the Chromium Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

I've tried to FORCE QUIT, but this pane does not appear in the list of options. Anyone seen this ? What should I do?

Ultimately, like I said before, when our groups.io storage runs out the oldest attachments will be automatically delected to make room for new attachments. By Jim adding his photo to every email really won¡¯t make that much difference because if his photo happens to be the oldest attachment it will get deleted first.

In my mind, it provides HUMAN contact in a HUMAN conversation.

An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair?business is very relevant.

What *I* am running is often not very relevant to the OP¡¯s complaint.?When it is, I include that info as part of the conversation.
I certainly don¡¯t think it needs to be on EVERY posting.

So I'll ask - Jim, what does the photo of you add to your post? If it's just?for the sake of it, I think you need to take to heart that there are actual?reasons NOT to do it.?

Let me answer that indirectly.
Having an image of YOU on a post to which I am replying gives ME a?much better feeling for the person with whom I am conversing. More like?a face-to-face conversation between real people.

The difference in message size between image the way I¡¯m now doing it and no image is about the same, or less, as the difference between sending in RTF versus sending in plain text.

I'm not opposed to it, personally. "Selfish" is choosing your own want?over someone else's need, but you do what you gotta do.

Oh, come on. I¡¯m sure you could phrase that with greater personal hostility if you just put your mind to it.

An image indicating contact information for a member's Mac repair
business is very relevant.

Personal photos in signature lines are more relevant when people are
trying to prove they're not 13. If 13 year old member on the list
posted an articulate question or response, their age becomes
irrelevant. If the information is accurate and well-phrased, they
could be any age, any gender, from any location, etc.

I think it is simply his vanity that he wants his silly face to be
seen by all of us. It gives him a feeling of power if he can annoy
