Re: My unhappy MacBook Pro
Let me reply with two stories. The first, some medical cures were not as safe as once thought. They used to "cure" syphilis. They used to have the patient swallow mercury. It was "safe" because it did not kill the patient immediately. And another "cure" for ailments was leeches. (Using an automotive contact cleaner, could be removing the conductive ink used to print the circuit in the key switch, or ineffective on the sugar from the spill.) The other is a joke. Doc, it hurts when I do this. Well, don't do that. (Problem can't be found in the file structures, after the heating problem goes away, because there is no software damage.) We are sorry you lost a lot of stuff in the fire, but let it go. On Nov 1, 2019, at 1:36 PM, jimrobertson via Groups.Io wrote:

Re: Signature images
#MacSupportCentral
Tim, I debated whether to reply to the list or you privately. The vast majority of members have no voiced opinion on images in signatures. Let it die. Like top or bottom posting, the owner, admins and mods have the last word, and the owner has said he is monitoring the thread. I take that is he currently doesn't care, in fact he had made a suggestion on how to minimize the data hit the group takes if included. Drop it. Like the use of Activity Monitor, iState, whether you read posts by email, digest or web, or by thread or chronologically, these issues are not set by the group, but by each of us. Please let this die. Brent On Oct 31, 2019, at 3:29 PM, timmeidroth wrote:

Re: How to type Apple symbol/logo ?

Howdy.
Yes, you can do the Apple Logo with an iOS device but you have to set it up first in Settings. ? Copy the above Apple logo character. On iOS, open Settings>General>Keyboards>Text Replacement Press the + and create a new shortcut. Paste the Apple Log in the Phrase box. Make a Shortcut in the shortcut box. For example, something short, easy to remember, and it doesn't conflict with some other shortcut. apl perhaps. Then you can do ?Watch, ?Pay, etc. Denver Dan On Fri, 1 Nov 2019 18:42:14 -0400, Julian Thomas wrote: Is there a way in ipados/ios?[|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|][|] iSent from iDan's GyazMail on my MacPro |
Re: activity monitor
Tim, each Mac has a different answer. I have kept Activity Monitor's CPU History open in the bottom left corner of all my Macs for about the last 20 years. Then things start to slow or freeze, my ey glances down there, and I see a lot of red. To figure out what is causing that, I open the main window.? I also keep Hardware Monitor, and app like iStat, but older, open since heat is often an issue with laptops. Re: it’s like a horror movie: my system files have eaten up my boot drive!
开云体育Why?It is probably the quickest way to ensure that the problem is resolved. And time is money. While you can work through a resolution of the problem, it can take a lot more time and never guarantee that the problem is resolved. And you would probably also suggest to the client to increase the size of his SSD during the procedure. Christopher

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
It is indeed Word for Mac 2016/Office 365 (see subject line). I haven’t deleted any relevant files. I think it’s going to be Sunday morning at the earliest before I get a chance to explore and check out the suggestions I’ve been given. Julie |

Re: autotext in Office 365-Mac Word2016
It's my understanding that autotext entries are part of the Preferences > Autocorrect tab, so probably embedded in the preferences .plist file...
The only helpful suggestions I may offer otherwise is to identify and locate the Word preferences file, and once you have that filename, copy it down somewhere. Then try to locate the same file in TimeMachine backups at a date that you know it worked, then copy the old file somewhere. Once you exit TimeMachine, over-write the new preference file with the recovered old one and restart Word. That SHOULD work, but in any case, clone your system and make a TimeMachine backup immediately before you do this, in case it does not... It turns out that the preference file is a *.plist file as per this document... So if you can find your old one in TimeMachine, you should be able to replace the new one with the old working one without having to reinstall Word.... --- I suppose Paul's suggestion begs the question of where are the autotext entries actually stored? In my Word 2011? I found them in Word > Preferences > Autocorrect Are they part of the preferences file – as I posited above – or are they included in the "Normal" document template that is stored elsewhere? -JR --- Paul wrote: Office 2016 (or Office 365) the Normal.dotm file location is: /UserName/:Library:Group Containers:Microsoft: some random number.Office:User Content:Templates You should also be able to navigate to those folders, launch Time Machine, and restore the file from when it worked into the appropriate current location. Hope that helps. Paul |
