Mail: advanced search

I’m trying to do a search in Apple Mail with more than one filter where one of those filters is a “not.” It’s not working the way I would intuitively think it should.

First, I’m searching for a specific subject, and from there I’d like to narrow it down by excluding one or more particular mailboxes.

Does anyone know how to do this?

ok, I’ll try that.
I can’t imagine what it might be. I’m not aware of any changes I’ve made to it recently and since it’s in my own home, it shouldn’t be continuing to search wifi connections overnight.

Is it the battery or something draining it overnight? Turn it off and leave it overnight and see if it still goes down.?

Time Machine backup disk question

This may be a stupid question but I would like to know when & how TM supposedly "deletes" older backups. ?I have watched my 1Tb G-DRIVE ev RaW rapidly fill up until this AM it has only 52.24Gb free. ?The ?internal drive in my 2017 MBP is a 1Tb SSD with 572.1Gb free. ?My concern is that in a lot of the posts I've read the suggestion is to get another/larger external backup device & carry on like nothing happened.

As I understand it I can't delete the older backups myself manually & still be able to recover if necessary...correct? ?At what point should i bite the bullet & re-format my backup drive? ?Will the force it to create a full backup of my MBP & start the process over? ?I don't believe there is anyway to know what all will be permanently lost to the ages so I am reluctant follow this path.

Any pertinent advice or guidance is appreciated.

Actually, I asked about it when I was in the Apple Store last week as my iPad drained fairly quickly a couple days earlier. ?As long as it’s a model they still service, you will get a new one for the cost of a battery. ?I didn’t ask the price though. ?Yes, I would agree it would likely be more than the battery for an iPod.

Black "dot" on iPhone 11 Pro iOS 13.3.1: what IS it?

开云体育

I awoke this morning before sunrise (iPhone therefore still in Dark Mode), but because my home screen photograph contains lots of light colored elements, I noticed a black “dot” (not perfectly round—there were two little appendages in the locations where "Mickey Mouse” ears would be if it were an emoji). It was a bit larger than the little dots that show which of the app icon screens is foreground.

If i moved the screen, the little dot did not move, unless I placed my finger on it, in which case it WOULD move directly beneath my fingertip; if those movements were horizontal, the screen would move in the direction I was swiping; if my movements were vertical, the screen would NOT move (but the dot did, beneath my fingertip). Tapping the dot itself did nothing, unless the ?dot was situated over an interface element which normally would respond to a tap.

After a minute or so, the dot began moving spontaneously down the screen at a slow but constant rate (perhaps 5 seconds to reach almost the bottom, where it stopped). Placing my fingertip on it again, I was able to reposition it. So long as I didn’t swipe SO far horizontally as to bring up the previous or next icon page, the page would recenter when I lifted my finger from the screen.

I had many apps open; I thought perhaps it was associated with one of them, but running in dark mode.it might be impossible to tell, so I terminated all running apps one by one, noticing that it was a tiny bit different shade of black that the background screen of each of these apps, and it remained on screen after I’d terminated them all.

I took a screenshot, but the dot wasn’t captured in a screenshot of my home screen, so I opened my photos app, saw that the dot was still visible, so did another screen capture with a predominantly light colored photo, but it wasn’t captured on a screenshot of a photo, either. I selected another photo to capture, centered the dot on that photo, and then the little bug(ger) disappeared. It was still too early for dark mode to have auto converted to light mode. I cannot be certain that I didn’t cause the disappearance somehow by preparing to take the screenshot.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, WHAT WAS IT?

I think I got this wrong and if so I apologize to one and all.

Here's an article from the BackBlaze online backup people that seems to
do a better job explaining Time Machine and using multiple drives for
backup "in a rotation."

I also learned from this article about using the Option key and
clicking the Time Machine icon on the Menu bar. This gives two new
commands:

- Verify Backups
- Browse Other Backup Disks
