Upgrading to office 365 is not without a cost. Did you wife make a purchase??

Also, I would remove the old version of office before attempting to install office 365.

Please also keep the three intact when you reply.

Dan,

Thank you for your assistance. Sorry we didn't provide the requisite info but neither of us are very tech savvy
and some of what you inquired of us, we never would have considered as essential. "Well above our pay grade."

Nevertheless, my wife has a MacBook Pro, 21.5 inch, late 2012 model.
637.96 GB available out of 1 TB. ?8 GB Ram.

As she always does, when a "drop down" notice is received indicating "updates available," she simply clicks on "Install"
She did that weeks ago, shortly after Catalina was offered.?

Please note, the download and subsequent installation of 10.15.1 seemed to go seamlessly and were installed when each were made available.

The trouble only occurred a couple of days ago, when my wife tried to use the versions of Microsoft applications, on the iMac, "Word," Excel," "Power Point,"
etc. that she?has been using for years on all the prior OS`s up to Mohave.?
It appears Catalina and those older Microsoft apps are not compatible. I believe I saw a message on my MacBook Air, 2014, running he latest
Mohave, that these Microsoft applications will no longer function beyond Mohave.

My wife proceeded to try to download Microsoft 365 Personal and when she tried to open Word, a box kept appearing, requesting
a "keychain password." She didn't know what that meant and so she kept using all the passwords she could think of without success.
Also was unable to change or reset her password, so that currently "Word" is inoperable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rick
for the latest OS, in this case Catalina. No different than what she (we) have been doing since the days of "Leopard" and moving forward.

She did not do any maintenance or preparation beyond just clicking "Install."
