When I¡¯ve done this, I had to set preferences to store the library on the external drive, then drag the existing folders containing the content into the app (presumably iTunes or Music). ? Takes a while for all of the music to be processed but worked. ?I¡¯ve never been able to just use the existing library file that defined things in a previous setup. ? ?Note that at least in some versions of the apps you can tell it not to make copies of the songs, but to just leave them in their original place?
