I think I'm going to try WD as my first stop.? I live in France, so using recovery services in the US might be problematic - as well as expensive!? The disc contains stuff of sentimental value rather than mission critical data.

I had rather hoped that there might be a low level access to the drive so that I could use Disk Warrior to do my own recovery.? It seems that might be a forlorn hope.
