bev, very helpful indeed...using quicktime movie inspector combined with the aspect ratio/resolution guide (below) i learned that the iphone video (.mov format) sent to my imac matches 4K UHD 16:9...however, per tod's advice i made sure that, while using the video in imovie, resolution was set at 4K when exporting the work...the export converts the movie to .mp4 format with resolution retained in 4K.
