?This morning, I ¡°parked¡± my iPad on the R front fender of my car while coercing our sweetheart English Lab into the back seat. She just LOVES to hold out for a bribe/treat, and this morning that was enough to activate my forgetfulness gene. It wasn¡¯t until we reached our destination, 15 miles away on the local 80 mph speed limit interstate highway, that the tablet surfaced into my conscious mind once again, and of course it was no longer ¡°resting¡± where I¡¯d left it. However, Find My reported that it was only about 2 miles prior to my destination that it had become dislodged, likely onto a freeway overpass (although FindMy identified it as being adjacent to the street that crossed under the highway).
Since we¡¯d driven on that overpass, and since FindMy gave me frequent updates to its constant apparent location, we returned to that location and saw it, wedged against the 3 ft tall wall at the edge of the overpass. Of course, with average vehicle speeds in excess of 80 mph, I did NOT dare trying to retrieve it.

Over the next 45 minutes, those updates continued, but then the reported location suddenly changed to a cluster of restaurants nestled a few hundred feet away from the overpass. The reports provided a very specific street address, at which two separate restaurants were located. I called them both, and neither reported a customer trying to leave a device at the business closest to where it had originally been reported. Curiously, however, after about 30 minutes, the device location reports returned to their original location, making me realize that they depended a LOT on the location of the identifying device. And, driving over that overpass once more revealed my iPad still resting where we¡¯d found it previously.

I¡¯ve been told that a highway patrol trooper will retrieve it, but that was now almost 4 hours ago. Being accelerated into a wall at 70 mph won¡¯t be kind to it, but hope springs eternal .
