COMPARISON OF THE ICOM IC-7300 AND YAESU FT-DX10 TRANSCEIVERS

Looking at these myself.

Re: Breakfast Topic: FOX 7 - KTBC Broadcasting Frequency

The bandwidth of Television channels is 6MHz wide, so 174-18? MHZ.
Using the formula 28?8/freq.=1/2 wave at center frequency of 177MHZ=.15.8644?6779661?2"? for 1/4 wave, double that for 1/2 wave.

You should really make it a folded dipole for 3?? Ohms, then use 3?? Ohm twin lead to the TV, and a the good old 4:1 balun at the receiver.
This is old school, but this is best for low loss, and noise rejection.

"This was generated by AI"

Re: Breakfast Topic: FOX 7 - KTBC Broadcasting Frequency

Thanks Alex. That's about 16.9 inches for quarter wave. 34 inches for 1/2 wave. No wonder my little 4" antenna doesn't receive KTBC very well. I'll try building a simple wire Moxon.

Breakfast Topic: FOX 7 - KTBC Broadcasting Frequency

Transmit Frequency 174.0 according?to?. I assume the units are MHz (not displayed).

The primary and sub channels are multiplexed on the same frequency according?to this:?.

Thanks for playing! ;-)

Re: ANNUAL ARMED FORCES DAY CROSSBAND TEST (11 May 2024)

OK - more input below from ARRL's recent email.

I just successfully contacted (0235Z - May 11) the USS Midway - callsign NIIW, in San Diego on SPLIT - I was listening on 14.476 and transmitting on 14.345. Pretty cool. I gave him a 59 and he had me at an improving 57 to 58.

The annual DOD message will be transmitted via RTTY on 14.667 kHz at
1400 and 2000 UTC. These tests provide opportunities and challenges
for radio operators to demonstrate individual technical skills in a
tightly controlled exercise scenario. Military stations will
transmit on selected military frequencies and announce the specific
ARS frequencies monitored. All scheduled times will be in Zulu, and
all scheduled frequencies will be upper sideband (USB), unless
otherwise noted.?

Information on frequencies, times, and other technical information
can be found at DoD MARS - Armed Forces Day at,
https://www.dodmars.org/mars-comex-information-website/armed-forces-day
.

The Battleship IOWA Amateur Radio Association (BIARA) and the ship's
Innovation, Engineering and Technology Team will activate NEPM,
which was the ship's original radio station call sign from 1942
until 1997. It was reassigned to the ship in 2015. The activation
will begin at the same date and time as the Armed Forces Day
Crossband Test, from 1400 to 2000 UTC. All SSB operations are USB
only for transmit and receive.

Assigned transmit and expected receive frequencies are:?

* 4.0435 to 3.943 MHz USB

* 6.9035 to 7.295 MHz USB

* 9.9440 to 10.113 MHz CW

* 14.4635 to 14.343 MHz USB

* 18.2930 to 18.143 MHz USB?

ANNUAL ARMED FORCES DAY CROSSBAND TEST (11 May 2024)

Can anyone clarify this "Crossband" test on Saturday?? Are we supposed to listen on channel A of our transceiver and SPLIT our Tx to whatever frequency they announce they will be listening on???? I've participated in DoD tests before on 60m, but never done this "crossband" version.

If you understand what they want, chime in,... don't guess.? My radios are not modified for MARS. Appears that they want us to stay in authorized ARS frequencies.?

73, Greg

ANNUAL ARMED FORCES DAY CROSSBAND TEST (11 May 2024)
The Department of Defense will host this year¡¯s Armed Forces Day (AFD) Crossband Test, scheduled for May
11, 2024. This annual event is open to all licensed amateur radio operators and will not impact any public or
private communications. For more than 50 years, military and amateur stations have taken part in this event,
which is an interoperability exercise between hobbyist and government radio stations.
The AFD Crossband Test is a unique opportunity to test two-way communications between military
communicators and radio stations in the Amateur Radio Service (ARS), as authorized in 47 CFR 97.111. These
tests provide opportunities and challenges for radio operators to demonstrate individual technical skills in a tightly
controlled exercise scenario that does not impact any public or private communications.
Military stations will transmit on selected military frequencies and will announce the specific ARS frequencies
monitored. All times are ZULU (Z), and all frequencies are Upper Side Band (USB) unless otherwise noted. The
frequencies used for the test will not impact any public or private communications and will not stray outside the
confines of the exercise.

Thanks for showing me last year how to install Anderson Powerpoles!

I'll help if I can. I'd like to get Scouts out to field day for a GOTA station. Let me know if there's interest in that and I can arrange a signup for local Scouts. My QRP probably isn't the best for a GOTA station, so if someone has a spare 100w rig, that would be great.
