Welcome Mike Cosner!
2
Mike joins us after a long career with FEDEX - retiring after holding seniority number 1 for his last 7 years. He flies a Twin Comanche back and forth to and from Pensacola and will be in the Museum hangar in spot #4 (north end, facing the runway) if and when the grass dries out. A side note . . . Mike¡¯s name sounded familiar when Mark gave it to me . . I had a younger flight instructor in Orlando in the 1972ish time frame named Mike Cosner and Lo and Behold. . . . . Glad to have you with us, Mike. Now I have a good excuse for my landings after you taught me. -Alex

Special acrylic drill bits
3
Greetings, Steve and I are working on the RV4 canopy and have a need for some special drill bits to drill through the acrylic canopy. Does anyone have any ? Ideally we would like 3/32, but the more popular 1/8 size will work. Mark

3/8" deep Craftsman Socket Found.....in my pocket.
8
During the hangar door work sessions, I picked up someone's 3/8" deep Craftsman socket. Let me know if you are missing one. (Luckily, I found it prior to Karen doing the wash.....I am always in trouble for clanking noises in the washer\dryer) Steve

[Eaa1016] The first cookout lunch of the season!

I wasn¡¯t laughing at your landing, I was laughing at the balls it took to take an untested aircraft around the pattern. Hats off Alex. Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad

The first cookout lunch of the season!
5
Had a great time, y¡¯all . . . I lost track of how many burgers, brats, Italian Sausage, etc we put away but we did the airfield proud ¡ thanks to all who came and that is to those who stuck a little in the cup toward goodies for the next free for all. Daryl Habit called all the way from Cincinnati to lament he was not there. Mark and I had a great time talking about the Kolb¡¯s first flights and the tweaks that are being applied, one at a time. Once tuned in, the airplane should be a delight to fly. Meanwhile flight #2 met the earth convincingly (on purpose, .. I was trying to stretch my glide so I¡¯d know when it would pay off in ground effect. Well, that¡¯s my story. Kemper laughed) Make plans to attend the Saluda Spring Concert ¡°Mountain Song¡± featuring Hummel builder/pilot and, of course, Fairweather Flyer: John Wilkinson. It sure is great to be back at the Airfield!

Hmmm

I¡¯m fairly sure many of us receive General Aviation News every day as I do and appreciate the quick review it offers in the latest aviation occurrences. Today¡¯s article was a bit different and I¡¯d like to share an impression (My unfortunate psychiatric training is responsible for this, so apologies). Please study this photo that illustrated one of the newsworthy items today: Did you see it? I found it really interesting that all of the men in this group of A&P students uniformly held their arms in an adversarial or ¡°crossed arms¡± position while all of the women (again uniformly) held theirs in a submissive position. With the increasing validity of the real worth of women in aviation, I was disturbed by this. I¡¯d really like to have seen the women cross their arms to accentuate their value rather than to have assumed what appears to an observer to be a position of subservience. Our gals in the WASPS, the 99¡¯s, the WIA, so many other worthwhile groups and the great female pilots (aviators) and instructors I¡¯ve known and trained with deserve acknowledgement and appreciation. I don¡¯t expect them to be bossy but at least equal. They have to know this and act accordingly. Vive La Difference!!

RV4 at Shelby
3
I met the builder/owner of this RV4 today in Shelby . Super interesting IA who's helped build at least 6 RVs (?). He does aerobatics in it . Evidently, it won an award at Sun-n-fun after it was completed, years ago. Tim H.

A Russian film ¡ once through the first few minutes I was hooked. It¡¯s a great story. Tough to watch at times. Subtitles. Every country has its heroes. https://youtu.be/0QGl4L9675s?si=j4ezqBf-uGs0QoVV
