Zoom Plenary Room Greeter
#large
#events
Dear facilitators,?
Has anyone used a greeter for larger meetings online?? A client has suggested using the main zoom room as a 'greeting' room and then people go to a breakout for the plenary sessions. She would then stay in the main room to guide people who come late. I have never done this but I am curious if you have.? If so, anything I should be aware of?? As the plenary sessions will then have some breakouts, I am wondering how I would do breakouts if people are already in a 'breakout' room.? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.? As well, if anyone is interested in testing and trialing with different versions of zoom + different devices, there are a few us playing with this 9-10am PDT tomorrow, November 6th. Email me for the zoom link if you are keen.? Best,? Michelle -- Michelle Laurie michellelaurie.com Strategy-Assessment-Engagement-Faciltation |
Yes, I often will move people into the sub-rooms early, and then greet the people coming in and direct them to the right rooms.? Then pull them back to the main room for the next phase of the conversation. However, this really only works well with small enough groups of people. Too many people coming in at once and you get things bogged down.? On Thu, Nov 5, 2020 at 2:28 PM Michelle Laurie <michelle.k.laurie@...> wrote: Dear facilitators,? --

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Michelle! I have done this many times on Zoom... even with group size of close to 100. Worked great in the way that John is describing (moving people into breakout rooms as they arrive, after a short hello). Then we close the breakout rooms a few mins before we start to bring everyone back to the main room. It's helpful to let people in from the waiting room in batches, so you can welcome a batch (say hi, quick explanation of what's happening), then pop them into breakout rooms, then welcome the next batch. With the tech host we just figure out the right rhythm - it doesn't really matter how large the batches are, it's just easier than letting folks in one at a time. And we let folks know they they can click "leave room" if they need to return to the main room while they are visiting.? Hope that helps! ~ Amanda On November 6, 2020, Sian Madden <sianmadden@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOops Michelle - that wasn't very clear. I haven't done it in the way that your client is suggesting, but in the way that John described. Apologies for any confusion! On November 6, 2020, "Amanda Fenton (she/her) via groups.io" <amanda.fenton@...> wrote:

Thanks for organizing that call today, Michelle.? It takes a lot to organize a call like that, and that helps us?learn from each other efficiently. There were some very interesting situations that you debugged with breakout rooms, hosts, the help button, etc on that call.? Lots of learning?for all of us.
