Work Around for Q&A when using regular Zoom
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Everyone: I am helping to facilitate a session that will be on regular Zoom: not webinar. There is the need for a Q&A session but in regular Zoom this feature does not exist. Looks like about 160 people coming so putting into the chat is not a good thing. What have others done for a work around? I can link to something else like say Google Forms or Google Jam Board but any other ideas? ? Thanks so much ? Laurie ? ? Laurie Ringaert, Principal Consultant Offices in Winnipeg, MB & Nanaimo, BC. Do you use PollEverywhere? They have a type of poll called Q&A. What's great about this is that not only can participants provide their questions, these are visible to all participants who can then vote them up and down. The dynamic list changes as the popular items rise to the top.? This feature is really helpful as a moderator - while it does not direct me on which questions to select, it does give me a sense of the "room" as to which questions are most valued by the participants. (Zoom polls only allow single choice or multiple choice responses, not open text as you need for questions) When I use PollEverywhere with a Zoom meeting, there are different options for how to engage participants: a) Ask participants respond?by text message (works well if all participants?are in the same country) b) Ask participants?to install the PollEverywhere app and respond from their phones (worth it if you are using multiple polls) c) Send a link through the Zoom chat to the PollEverywhere site (not the general website, but the particular page for your account to receive poll responses) This option means that a browser window will open for these responses, and will sit alongside the Zoom app during the session. Hi Laurie, The simplest solution may be to?use the regular Zoom chat feature to host your Q&A.? This requires a tech host to gather questions and present them to the speaker so that the speaker doesn't have to sort through the whole chat. If you do not want participants sharing public messages, you can restrict the Zoom chat so that participants?can only send a message to the hosts with this setting (screenshot attached): Allow meeting participants to send a message visible to all participants If that doesn't meet your needs, please mention why and we can all think of other solutions.? Hi Laurie, The Q and A aspect is often the most engaging part so I can see why you are so interested in this. It sounds like you might be looking at free tools for people to add questions so Google Forms and Jamboard might do the trick, albeit it a little tricky. I've shared some examples of Panel Discussion Q and A (Fireside chat and ask a speaker style) based on 2 public events that I was also involved in case you wanted to see how it was done with GroupMap. (Disclaimer: this is our facilitation?product). Questions were collected in real time alongside Zoom on a separate browser or on their phone and they voted up other questions that they were keen on. One format just happened?to be more simple than another so it depends if you would like questions directed at a speaker or just a general list of questions. One was just a list with vote ups, whereas the other allowed people to add comments and then vote for an activity at the end. Hope this is helpful. Hi Laurie, Those GroupMaps that Jeremy shared look outstanding and would help take the proposed Q&A format to a whole new level. Usually when organizations plan to have just Q&A it's not a very empowering event.? Using something like GroupMaps shows participants that their ideas (and not just their questions) matter.? It gives them a voice. Live Online Events | Engaging Communities | Real Collaboration Drop in for? On Thu, Feb 11, 2021 at 2:27 PM Jeremy Lu via <jeremy=[email protected]> wrote:
