Apps to turn chat into a Wordle/word wall

Hello!
This may be an unrealistic request, but I am looking for an app that will allow us to convert responses in zoom in the chat box to a word wall or wordle - so in other words have the chat responses appear in larger type, in color etc. on the screen. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!!
Catherine?

Throwing some fun into the mix.? If they have a high self-perceived geek factor, and Topia is along the right lines for interaction, you may want to explore Spatial.chat or Gather.town to play with the meeting visual and interaction metaphors.

?

Do think about Accessibility when looking at various platforms.? Some of these are actually great for introverts but may not be great for those with visual challenges or different abilities.? We had a major event in Hopin in the spring and it wasn¡¯t ready in terms of accessibility issues.

?

Recording is another challenge¡make sure you do a demo recording early in your decision process so you can see what archival recordings look like and where they get stored etc.?

?

P.S. If you want to tinker with others on new platforms, or are part of platforms that want to get piloted, check out .? We just played with new virtual event game platform this week and previously descended en masse in Spatial.chat

Thanks for posting the questions, Leilani.

?

I often hear people say they "do not want this event to be just another Zoom meeting."? If someone says that or "I hate Zoom" I recommend asking them to share more about the specific aspects of Zoom that they do not like to make sure that your ultimate choice of platform achieves what they are looking for.

?

The reasons I hear most often for why people?want something?other than a standard Zoom meeting is that they want to give participants a bit more freedom to move around and they want to make the event look more special to show participants that it was worth paying for.

?

In 2021, one of Zoom's greatest strengths is that people who will join an online event probably already know how to use it.? Topia is great, because it lets you move your avatar around a 2D virtual space (similar to a gameboard) and then go on video with people that are nearby.? There is a small learning curve, but a 5-minute video like the one on ?is sufficient.? What I don't know about Topia is how long it takes new users to figure it out if they don't come prepared or watch a video and what happens if you'd like to have more than 25-50 people in one conversation.

?

If the client didn't like Zoom for the reasons mentioned in the 2nd paragraph above, you might be able to solve that by wrapping Zoom with Google Docs.? You would get several Zoom meetings (one for each presenter), putting the links to each meeting in a Google Doc, and adding some colors or logos to the Google doc to "give it a sense of place".? Consider making it an editable document so that participants can add notes.

?

Or if you wanted to go farther with that "Zoom wrapper" idea, you could use QiqoChat to enable user profiles, directory of participants, 1-1 messaging, site-wide announcements, multiple embedded documents in each "space", etc.

?

Whatever you decide, I recommend also trying to set participants' expectations of how social/interactive the event will be.? For example, if the expectation is that people will share their video, let the participants know ahead of time so that they can come prepared to do so (for example, being in a place that they don't mind sharing in the background).

Re: Interactive Science Meeting-platforms or ideas? #events

Over the last year, I have done more than 150 virtual meetings. I am clear that some meetings can be horrible.?

However, I have been able to get some of my groups to be more productive virtually than they are in person.?

Usually facilitation makes a positive difference.?

Additionally, usually practice/familiarization ahead of time makes? a positive difference.?

It is very clear that mixing up the tools also can make a difference.?

Good luck with your engagement with this.?

If they are all posters, with no mingling... There seems like very little reason to make it synchronous. Just make a private Youtube channel with all the posters and let them go at it when they like.? Set up side match-making one on one opportunities for the people who want to mingle.?

It is not clear that the structure has been thought out around how the social engagement?will be amplified.?

I hope the conversation goes well.?

There are 10 posters in one day, otherwise four presentations per the 2.5 hours in one day.

They aren't in groups, so we can mix things up. They saved no time for mingling and I'm trying to put some it back in.

I'm responding to the whole group because someone else might want to see my responses.

For introverts it¡¯s a great idea to start the meeting but putting them in a breakout fir three min bring them back to the main room scramble them and gave them answer a second question with the new group. ?Scramble again and have them answer a third question. I usually ask questions relevant to the topic. This relaxes everyone and energizers them.?

I also avoid PowerPoint and instead put content in chat?

I also ask people to use gallery viewand insist on camera on Encourage them to select hide self view. That way everyone else can see them but they don¡¯t have to oook at themselves it definitely relaxes people.?

Finally use google jamboards for brainstorming and interactivity.?

Re: Interactive Science Meeting-platforms or ideas? #events

Why is it 2 hours??

What if you never had them all in the same place/time and you spread it out over a week. And you provided the science asynchronously as videos and then you engaged in discussion on different channels, like a wiki site or a forum, and you then used a match making tool to do either 1:1 connections, or? small group connections (4-5 people) over the week??

How many people are in the group??

100?? If everyone were to meet and talk to everyone else for 15 minutes, you would have 25 hours of conversation.?

If you drop that to groups of 5, then you would have 5 hours of conversation.??

Stuffing those connections into 2 hours seems a bit tricky.?

And then there are the dynamics of who gets to speak when....?

If you lighten up on some constraints (time, duration, synchronous), you give yourself options for other serendipity to happen.??

I have had great experiences going to conferences where I skipped the presentations and just used the match making tool (in this case Brella) to meet with folks who had questions for the whole time.?

I bet that there is an opportunity to do "better" with a reconfigured semi-asynchronous process spread out over some period of time ( perhaps a bit more than a week), which would create a much higher sense of connection.?

None the less, there are plenty of tools to play with if you want to try different synchronous things.?

We use Remo as a way to drive things, because it gives us the opportunity to let people mingle in small groups on their own, and yet bring people back to focus on talks.?

How many people?
How many talks?
what percentage of the time is doing mingling vs presentations?

If you are going to JAM? 80% of the time into presentations, then you should just make the talks be videos that you send to people ahead of time. Just so you have time for mingling.?

So, I hope that I am highlighting some alternative ways to think about the task beyond the technology question.?

Gillian, this is such a great study that you are doing! I'm sure that the articles you are writing, and your dissertation, will be great contributions to the field and practice of facilitation.

I encourage those on this list with appropriate contacts to suggest people?and organizations that can be included in this study!

Dear Ann,

the International Association of Facilitators runs a facilitator directory, where are listed the names of the facilitators that have been accredited as IAF Certified Professional Facilitators. In the same pages offers the possibility for clients to search for a facilitator using a form
