If he wants help, he also has to give help, that's how it works in these _free_ forums.
I'm sorry to hear the austria microsystems chips didn't work out, but i'm not surprised there is no caller ID, since there is no international standard for that.

Gents,
I'm the non engineer who was looking for info on a wireline interface chip. ST suggested Austria Microsystems. They have a "phone on a chip" that at first looked perfect.
But it didn't support Caller ID. No problem, work around that with a Mitel MT88e46a. Then we realized there was no serial interface to the MPU and no work around possible. Deal breaker!
So my engineer buddy, working on the cheap, came up with a 4 chip solution. Did I mention this project has an RF component? Anyway, Charles can only squeeze in time for this project when the boss isn't looking, hence, three years latter, were only 75% done.
I keep telling Charles how helpful you guys are and he should join the group, ask questions and fast track to the finish. Problem is, Charles is as helpful as he is curious.
He gets swept up in problem solving and fears your forum will cause him to spend time here that he doesn't have. That's why I asked about a "private thread".
So, when finished, we'll launch this product as designed. When cash flow allows, we'll have a foundry make us the first true phone on a chip with RF and a serial interface.
We currently have 5 can't miss applications and I'm sure there are many more.
Thanks for listening,
Joe
