You need to buy the board that works with your scalesYou can use an Arduino which is much cheaper.? The code is available here ...??? ? a continuation of Yuriy's original code. But I believe it only works with iGaging scales. It's not a new idea, but Mark and I are working on using a rotary encoder to replace the magnetic scales which would be cheaper (encod ers can be had for less than 20.00 GBP these days), but the major advantage is doing away with a bulky scale parallel to the cross slide, usually a big problem on small lathes. The scale will be replaced by a 0.3mm dia steel cable housed in a little duct or tube. It's early days, but we think it should be viable.? Mark has already modified an Arduino MKR board to run Blue Tooth instead of Blue Tooth LE and written the sketch.? I'm trying to catch up with testing and the mechanical side of things!? The plan is to run the Arduino serving both axis, off rechargeable lithium batteries.? This arrangement would mean an enclosure at the back of the cross slide could transmit direct to touch DRO on a tablet with no wires dragging in the chip tray. |
Re: Can this DRO be used?
Prasad - there are some threads on igaging scale having grounding issues causing the jumping that you have described. Simple fix was to use toothed washers to break the anodizing on the aluminum scale so a better ground could be made. Aluminum will air anodize - all it needs is humidity and time. Yuri has written about it and I have seen it on other places as well. The problem is the scale, not the DRO. On Tue, Mar 22, 2022 at 4:00 PM Prasad via <ad_prasad=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Can this DRO be used?
Mike, Thanks and OK I got the set of three iGaging scales with EZ-DRO displays a few years ago and they worked for a while but then one of the scales started misbehaving. It is the Y scale - the 6 inches long one that jumps. The display would suddenly jump by an exact 0.2000" for no apparent reason and then jump again and again. I have tried at least three "cures" including adding an extra capacitor inside each display unit to filter out the noise. The jumping display has reduced but not disappeared. Still happens randomly. The DRO is not my trusted device currently.? I wonder if that problem would still be around with Yurys Toy TouchDRO. If that happens it would be a waste of my money.? -Prasad

Mike animal? Best you send a link of either ebay or Amazon for sale items to verify what you suggest. I may be wanting to build a "gizmo" with controllers in May.? The DDCNC box I have owned for 4 years is more than adequate, regular free version upgrades and the help Facebook forum is excellent. For my requirements of milling the X Y Z? A axis movements, just brilliant.?Touch wood" I have never had a failure, only in my own programming of the g codes. With the verify screen, it draws out the part or profile and shows a potential for a crash before you turn on the spindle. Stay well John Cheers John On Tue, 22 Mar 2022 at 18:35, mike allen <animal@...> wrote:

Re: Can this DRO be used?
My first purchase of I gaging kits were surprisingly from the US Micro Mark, the hobby shop suppliers. to fit on my?mill. X Y Z axis. I say surprisingly as this was 10 years ago, price, quality? and delivery to Spain, all excellent and the bonafide Igaging scales have never let me down.? I believe these scales were originally manufactured in Silicon Valley?CA. ??? All scales are secured to the relevant?slides under aluminum covers to prevent?any chips and dirt getting inside.? Naturally the original LCD Ez view readers are now surplus to requirements?as I use my Ipad Samsung Android and the (Yuri toys) touch DRO. Excellent I must say. well done Yuri. Also the mill XYZ axes are fitted with optional power feed via stepper motors and very rarely a misreading error occurs if I use a rapid move, the Samsung display takes a few seconds to catch up to true position but normally recovers. My next retrofit was to fit full CNC to the mill, relying on the stepper pulses to control X Y Z and A axis positions. See photos of Samsung Ipad and the CNC display, always within 0.01mm, good enough I think. So basically, on my mill X Y Z A, I have a manual?set of handwheels. optional power feed, full CNC (g codes) with a ?MPG, "manual pulse generator", which basically is like using a manual mill, but one handwheel. a switch to select the axis, but always under the CNC display. MPG gives you the advantage to move the speed of table travels from .1 x 1? x 10? of pulse magnification but my power feed came along first, the CNC later. My lathe has?Igaging on the Z move (saddle) and X axis (cross slide) and jibes very well with the RELS fitted. never been an issue of mis readings since I fitted on 3 years ago. Also I fitted a different type of travel DRO to the lathe tailstock, very useful when wanting to drill/ream?to a precise depth. The 2 x lathe Igaging scales I bought via ebay Spain, unfortunately MicroMark almost tripled their prices in over 3 years, and I did not want to take on a second mortgage to purchase,? A change of management perhaps? IMHO, the difference between trading in diamonds and builders sand is, both come from the ground, but I would rather sell 1 cut diamond a month to one customer and make a handsome profit and needing normally LOL 1 invoice, than to sell 100 tons of sand to 1000 different customers, which means 1000 separate invoices and the staff required to run the quarry business and most of the "real" profit blows into the wind off the hoppers. LOL Hope of interest. John Spain On Tue, 22 Mar 2022 at 16:20, Ralph Hulslander <rhulslander@...> wrote:

GoolRC 7 Inch LCD Large Screen Grating CNC Digital Readout Display Lathe Control Panel Controller Board Engraving Milling Machine Control SystemAdvertised as CNC digital readout FOR and including milling machines, normally? the LCD display should contain a Z axis, and preferably the 4th A axis. But I see only 2 pinouts X Y. IMHO, no good for mills. Also I do not see any scale bars. see link below, and with some careful?shopping and checking the order boxes, you can have 3 axis?including the scale bars for about the same money. Not sure if it is available in the USA Bangood hub, but order direct from China. Good hunting. John Spain On Tue, 22 Mar 2022 at 14:55, BuffaloJohn <johndurbetaki@...> wrote:
