Re: A1G 2370 series flatcar stakes
Rick Will
Hi Edward,
I'm assuming your looking for A1G stakes to complete the A1G flats that you have to get them back to original condition but by chance that your not, I may have two sets from a couple of MT flats and possibly 1 to 2 sets from some Atlas flats that were produced in China that you can have if you want them. The cars that I have that the stakes belong to have custom wood loads that are tied down directly to the cars and I will not be able to use them. It's also possible that I might have a couple more sets of the Atlas and MT cars. If you want them let me know and I'll gather up what I have and will give you a definate total of each brand. Just checked out the new home for the A1G site and it works fine for me also. Loading time for the pictures seems a whole lot faster then the older site. By George, I think you got it!!!! (no pun intended.....lol)

Free to good home - A1G 2347 Tank Car Shells
umtrr
As part of the ongoing process of "redistribution" of materials
throughout our humble abode, I am coming across things that I will never use. I have a pair of shells of the 2347 Suburban Propane jumbo tank car. They aren't in the greatest condition... I think you can combine the two to get one intact runner. No trucks, but one is in the original box which will come along. I'm sure that someone can use these. First one to e-mail me with their shipping address gets both, courtesy of your A1G webmaster. |
A1G Site Has Been Moved!
umtrr
I have completed the research and (I hope) been frustrated for the
last time with the lack of being able to access my own site... (for those of you who haven't been following this, well, let's just say it's been annoying). I had just enough space on the IrwinsJournal.com domain to shoehorn in the A1G pages. So I am pleased to announce that the A1G site has in fact been moved: is the new URL. You should get a redirect message and an auto redirect to the main page of IrwinsJournal.com if you happen to hit the old URL (which is/was ). Please make a note of it! And do let me know if something appears amiss when you get there. Unfortunately since there is so little space left to play with I won't be doing any A1G updates for a while. It appears that I can double the monthly cost of the domain and go from 15MB to 200MB, but that's not yet in the cards, at least for the next few weeks. Thanks for your patience, everybody. Cheers, George A1G Webmaster, etc. |

I am hosting two sites with them - my home domain () and my rock band's site (). The cost (first year) is just the $30 setup fee and then $84 per year for 200MB of space, plus e-mail, FrontPage extensions, etc. I'm not trying to "sell" them - just a very happy customer! Hello everyone,Getting into A1g for me requires that I hit refresh everytime to access the site and the pictures. Though not all pictures work doing this method. I've been told that this works... sometimes, as you have discovered. I do hope that George can work this problem out some how. Wouldchanging the site to another server fix the problem? I believe that the ultimate solution is to move the entire A1G enterprise over to my irwinsjournal.com site. I have pushed the links page, the "send a note" page and the subscribe (to the UMTRR) page over there and I have not had any issues since. What I have to investigate is whether I have enough space left under the current agreement for irwinsjournal.com to be able to shoehorn in the A1G pages. I have to make sure that I leave enough room for the ever expanding UMTRR stuff, and also enough for the vision of having a seperate image for each of the A1G cars (as opposed to the "group photos" that still exist on many of the pages). And let's not forget that some folks have offered images of variations (and trust me, there is no worry to feel that you have to rush to get them to me!). Also, would it be a help to George if he took the site to abetter place and ask for donations for the up keep of the site? I suppose it would be a help to get donations :-) but it's not really necessary at this point. If my investigation reveals that (a) I need lots more space <and> (b) it's going to cost lots more, then I will consider some surplus liquidation to finance said expansion before I consider passing the hat. And Cheers, George Your group leader, webmaster etc. |
Trouble accessing A1G site........
Rick Will
Hello everyone,
I too have been having problems accessing the A1G site. Part of my problem which I hope I got fix is my aol (commonly know as aolhell). If I would of just stayed with version 8.0, everything would just be fine. But since up grading to 9.0 optimzed......well that's a whole "nother" story. Getting into A1g for me requires that I hit refresh everytime to access the site and the pictures. Though not all pictures work doing this method. I do hope that George can work this problem out some how. Would changing the site to another server fix the problem? Also, would it be a help to George if he took the site to a better place and ask for donations for the up keep of the site? And would everyone using this yahoogroup or anyone else accessing the page be willing to help out? (just a suggestion) During Christmas time, I ran across a passenger set that someone put up for co-signment. This was a SP daylight set consisting of a ABA of Concor PA's (Kato drives in the "A"s with a dummy B) plus 9 cars which are mostly A1G Atlas/ Rivarossi. The passenger cars are not in their original condition as the original owner glued people in the seats and glued extra weight to the bottom of the cars. Two of the cars in the set are the Bachmann full domes which were custom painted and the original three wheeled trucks were replaced with two wheeled trucks. Though they are nice cars, SP never had full dome ones. They prefered to use the 3/4 dome types. After tweeking the Concor/Kato drives in the PA's, the set runs pretty nice. I got the whole set for a wopping $35.00 That was my own Christmas present to me!(lol) I would surely love to see Atlas getting back into making Passenger equipment once again even if they have the stuff made over seas in China. Someone needs to fill that void between Kato and Concor and offer a good quality passenger car at a affordable price while not waiting years and years between runs. (Get it, (wait for ever) Kato<-----------------------------------------------------------"Atlas"--------------------------------(got what you want but it's so so) Concor. That's just my two cents on that. Rick _________________________________________________________________ Check out the coupons and bargains on MSN Offers! |
My finds of variations
Edward Bridges
I haven't forgot the group, i am in the middle of the process of
moving from Texas back to Illinois, so everything is boxed up. I currently have about 92% of the A1G freight cars now with 80% of those MIB. Once I get settled back in Illinois, I will get the digital images made of the variations I posted about here late last year. Edward Bridges on the move again... |
Re: Trouble Accessing The Site?
I have had problems like that too, George. I didn't say anything because I
have been having access problems using AOL with other sites, although it's usually the "could not open the site....." type message rather than a 404. Also, it has usually worked to just hit reload instead of clearing the cache. So, it appears netcom may have some problems of its own. Doug |
Trouble Accessing The Site?
umtrr
This may seem ridiculous, but over the past few months I have been
having difficulty accessing my own site! I use IE 6.0. If I try to hit the A1G homepage (or other pages stored on my personal startpage gji.home.netcom.com like the kids' photos, my links etc.) the browser hourglasses for a minute and then returns a 404 error: "the page cannot be found." Well, of course the page can be found-- I wrote it! Clearing the browser's memory cache and temporary internet files seems to fix the problem, at least most of the time. But what I'm more concerned about is other people not being able to access A1G, and thinking that it's "gone." Since the people on this list are the most likely to visit the site, I thought I'd start by asking you-- are you having this problem? A permanent fix would be to move the site over to the main domain irwinsjournal.com but that would just about use up the space available to me. Going to another host (free or otherwise) isn't a viable alternative. Cheers, George Your list owner and A1G webmaster |
Parts for A1G locomotives
Just thought I would let everybody know that bob111156 (Bob from
Plumsteadville, PA) has some parts for the steamers on *bay now. There are some 0-8-0 pilots and drivers, assorted chassis, and even a couple sets of brushes and springs for all the Rivarossi motors. Regards, Doug |
Lubrication instructions added
Hi everybody,
As a result of discussions I have had with Peter Moore (thanks Peter!), I have added lubrication instructions to the A1G reassembly page in each model section. This should be much better than my former blanket statement at the top of the page that said to lubricate all moving parts. I hope it is all clear and welcome any comments or suggestions. www.members.aol.com/dgosha/Reassembly.html Regards, Doug |
Website improvements
Hi everybody,
I have added thumbnails to the list of links to pictures of selected items on the "Honorary Treble-O-Lectric Page" on my Atlas First Generation Motive Power website. I also reduced some of the larger images on the page to thumbnails that link to larger pictures. This was done to enable the page to load faster for those of us with dial-up connections (although it still takes a while with all those thumbs :"). www.members.aol.com/dgosha/TrebleO.html Regards, Doug Gosha PS, sorry about the multiple postings but I don't know if everybody on one list is on the others. |
Walthers Sale on Former A1G Rolling Stock
umtrr
Got the new Walthers sale flyer in the mail yesterday. Usually this
is nothing to write home (or post) about, but this time there is a possible exception. As you probably know, when Atlas stopped marketing the A1G releases, Rivarossi kept making the ones that they did for Atlas. A couple of these were offered in non-A1G paint schemes, but most are still what was done in the late 1960's and early 1970's-- perhaps making these the longest running N Scale cars ever? Eventually these all wound up in the Arnold stable when Arnold took over Rivarossi. The most recent iteration of these is a set of seven cars of various types, one of which is an 86 foot high cub box car (in Santa Fe if I recall correctly, not an original A1G paint scheme but nice!). There is also an eight car set. All of these are freight cars. The punch line: In this Walthers flyer each set is marked down to just $13.97! That's less in 2004 dollars than they originally cost when I bought them. There are also sale prices on the Riva/Arnold iterations of the "cow and calf" switchers and some passenger cars. The passenger car prices, while good for Walthers, are still beaten by some other venues (like Train World in New York that has selected sets for $14.99). My flyer has a code that enables free shipping with $100 minimum order. No, they aren't true A1G's, but "stand ins". Considering how old the tooling is they really don't hold up too badly. I'd take these as "entry level cars" before some other stuff, that's for sure. Perhaps some early holiday shopping for gifts for new entrants, kids in the scale, et cetera... Cheers, Your list owner P.S. If anyone does go for this, please report back to the gang... |
New page on my website
Hi everybody,
I am pleased to announce that I now have "The Honorary Treble-O-Lectric Page" on my Atlas First Generation Motive Power website. I just had to include this because these trains are what I started with and also were a very important historical part of N scale. Included are some photos, a color table of available items in the line, and a brief history of Lone Star and their trains. Please have a look and I welcome any comments or suggestions. Link below: Scroll down to "Specials" and click on the link to the page. Regards, Doug |
Interesting find in a hobby shop in Austin, TX
Edward Bridges
I happened to stop in an old hobby shop in Austin, Tx this morning
looking for a certain magazine and happened to notice they had 5 old Atlas cars in the N scale showcase. Those cars were: 2295 DuPont 2312 Union Carbide 2321 Shipper's Car Line 2342 Norfolk & Western 2385 New Haven I found these cars to basically be never used new stock that somehow managed to stay on the shelves for years. The 2385 is what caught my attention, being that it is hard to come by, especially in this good a shape! Yes, I bought all 5 cars. I think its time to list another batch of A1G for sale as I have some more duplicate and surplus cars. Edward Bridges Granger, TX |
