Thank you Everyone......I cannot read French.?? I do not have a smartphone.? I have found his name and date of Death and birth......through France Insee Social Security Death Index...BUT even though I have found two Family Trees online, neither seem to be giving the same information as each other, or indeed matching the Social Security Death Index, .....? Both Trees are French of course, owners only speak French.? The Death Notice Anne, through the website you kindly gave me above, had his Name therein, but no Newspaper notice.? He was aged 92 yrs. at time of death in 2019, which matches the information I have, but not the Trees.
I am very thankful that my fellow researchers here have been so generous, when we are not talking about Yorkshire or our Yorkshire families.? I am trying to help a friend, at least we've found the Death details but unfortunately no further information about his parentage.
Cheers, Robyn C.

Hi Robyn

Peter is right.? You can find the departmental archives online and there are civil registration records online.? Just that someone who died in 2019 might not be over 100 years old which is where you could have problems

If you can reaD French, the archives does have a wep page with hints for doing family research:

If all you have is a name, a year and the fact that the death was in Toulon, a website like this might help you drive up a death notice.? At first glance, it looks like a very bare listing but where a newspaper is mentioned, you can click through to the actual notice in the paper, which might give you more clues about the family and at least shows the age.?

Not sure if you can search for births and marriages like this - more recent information might not be available there.

Hope this helps

Anne Harley

PS Sorry if this got sent twice - I seemed to lose it the first time and had to rewrite.

Hi Robyn

I did family history research in France in the pre-internet days, mostly in the Pas de Calais- visiting the archives. Haven't need to do anything on-line...?

Might be worth investigating where you can get free access..? can you get access to any academic institutions / libraries that might have free access? Or short term free periods - such long weekends or holiday weekends - like? French National day (July 14th) or Belgian National day (July 2st) which might offer free French / Flemish language access...

Good luck

Margaret

just a suggestion on the translation - if you have a smartphone with google translate you can choose french to english, tap the camera icon and hold the phone up to your screen to see translations of online documents in context. ‘automated’ translation like this lacks language subtleties but it can be helpful if what you need is a general idea of whether the page is useful.

Hi Robyn,
For a recent death like this you might try contacting the town hall in Toulon. Alternatively you could also try the archives of the département of the Var where Toulon is situated.?
I do not know if recent information is able to be divulged but if not they will tell you.
Good luck
Peter?

Morning everyone. Just wondering if anyone is going to Beverley at any time. I have discovered they are holding the records for Greater Driffield.
I am fairly sure my 3 x great grandmother Anne KNIGHT (from previous posting a few weeks ago) was likely born there between 1797 and 1804. Until I find her baptism I am unable to move back further, give her a father/parents with my research.
I am happy to reimburse any costs incurred involved via Paypal.

She has proven to be quite elusive and I'd love to solve this puzzle that has been niggling at me for over 10 years.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Re: Favour please....is anyone going to Beverley Archives? Thanks again

Hi everyone. Many thanks again Nivard. I got what you got a couple of times but the past week I haven't been getting the same results. I read through the registers at one stage for both Greater Driffield and Little Driffield.

I can only assume (dangerous I know) that she was not baptised in either place nor were any siblings she may have had.
I think I am going to have to leave this and wait until a further clue comes to light though what that will be eludes me. Most of what I need to move on happened prior to 1837.
It's waited 10 years or so so another couple won't do any harm and if I can't find it then it'll be left to my family if they are interested enough to follow up any of my research but it's not looking good so far!!
Still it keeps my brain active.

I do appreciate your time and effort Nivard. It's nice to have another pair of eyes on the job.
Many thanks again.

I get a bit confused with the different traditional naming patterns for children in Ireland, Scotland and England, and whether there were regional variations at times.
What was the traditional pattern in Yorkshire in the mid 1700s?
My family at that time were mostly Quakers or other non-Catholic non-Conformists.? Did these tend to follow the same pattern?
