Depending on your skill level you should be able to construct a longer
control cable rather easily.
There are others who say that the apple printer control cable works
quite well.
Personally I just took my existing control cable to a local commercial
shop that builds cables and just told them to duplicate it but make it
30 feet longer. It works fine and was not too expensive considering
the options of checking every apple shop in the city for an old cable
or finding my "electrical use work glasses" to help my tired eyes for
the soldering.
2. I'm hoping to use an SCS PactorIII TNC with my Yaesu 857D-- any
suggestions on using this TNC and FC-40 at the same time?
I have had no experience with this style of modem however I use PSK 31
with a Rig Blaster sound card modem and have no problems with my 897
and the fc 40. I see no reason for you to have any problems as long as
your modem does not use the same plug on the back of your 857 as your
fc40 does.
