Re: Squelch at FM mode works not correct
As a last ditch resort before replacing the pot, I have dismantled them before and given them a clean. Generally the wiper either gets corrosion on it or it's just general dirt buildup (use switch cleaner or my preferred method of ipa). They are usually very easy to take apart by bending a couple of clips that you can easily bend back afterwards. Good luck finding a replacement if you have to, as spare parts are now very few and far between unless you buy used, which comes with its own potential problems. Good luck M0CNL On Mon, Dec 19, 2022 at 1:44 PM gw3fsp via <gw3fsp.ldavies=[email protected]> wrote: I had that problem, try cleaning the track in the pot, dribble some cleaner (alcohol say) down the shaft with the set on it's back with the knob off, if that does not work it's a replacement pot usually. |
Squelch at FM mode works not correct
Hi FT-847 users,
I have the problem with my FT-847 that with FM the squelch closes a little, but when turning the knob further to the right, the squelch opens again. If the squelch knob were a clock face and if there is no signal on the VHF/UHF band: So if the knob starts at 7 o'clock and the squelch closes at 8 o'clock, it opens again at about 11 o'clock and then remains open until the right stop. With SSB everything works fine. I would venture over with meters, oscilloscope etc if I knew where to start. Is there a comparator or Schmitt trigger where I can start my search? Circuit diagram is available. Thanks for reading! 73, Tom, DJ6TB |

Re: FT847 RA0070300 SHEET Satellite label
Hi, Stuart,
Im not sure what you are seeking recently. I acquired an FT-847 and it came with copies of the Operating Manual and Technical Manual. Could you please explain what I should look for? BTW, the radio has a lot of features and I sure would like to find a YouTube video about basic operating. If you know of one, please share. 73, Dave W4QDV |
FT847 RA0070300 SHEET Satellite label
Hello Group, I am new to this group. I am trying to track down a FT847 RA0070300 SHEET this is the Satelite label. I moved QTH some time ago and it came of in transit. It is only a cosmetic issue but would still like to find one. The Transceiver functions OK I have tried some local dealers in VK but no help. Can somebody please advise where I might find one.Regards Stuart Vk5ade |

HI Andy
Needless to put it in SAT if on the same band, at most use VFO A and B and not SAT mode. ?

Re: RX-only HF mod?
Thanks guys, sounds like it might not be worth the trouble. The idea is to use a secondary receiver with the 3000, not instead of it. Why? Might be handy in contests, but mostly just because it’s possible ?
It will probably be easier and safer to just use a dedicated receiver for this.? |
Re: RX-only HF mod?
I tend to agree here, the FT 847? was never the best for HF, you could change all the pin diodes, you could also fit 10 to 15dB attenuator, this will help on RX, and also help when the Tx is on the 3000. Most TX/RX change over relays only have 12 to 15dB isolation. You cold also fit some back to back diodes on the RX path 73 Andrew Get |
Re: RX-only HF mod?
I believe that applying 5 volts to pin 8 of the tuner socket will inhibit TX. I am at a loss though to understand why you? would want to use the 847 for RX, when the 3000 is arguably better at RX on HF. Also, if the FT3000 is being used for TX, you will be overloading front of FT847, surely? Why? not just swap antenna feeds in to 847, and use that, with 3000 turned off? Seems much easier. ? Andy |
