Re: No S meter reading

Do a reset on radio first before finding a fault that may not exist.
VFO knob is removed by turning radio upside down, look at shuffle jog, there is a slot in it. Use small Allen Key, about 1.5mm or 2mm and there is grubscrew in main knob.

When I measure pins 7 and 8 in the cord that goes to the phone jack to the radio I get no reading.
I tried with the PTT off and down with the same results (radio off))

Regarding the mic gain I followed your instructions with no results (transmits but no audio)

The USA frequency settings may extend the 40m band, if not just live with the full extension and you will also get 60M

Re: FT-847 power switch

For what it's worth...
I did what is shown in the video years ago, paralleling the contacts and adding a 0.01 uf cap. It's pretty easy as the front panel tips down. Never had a problem. And I do turn the radio on and off with the PS just to be cautious. Also, I bought some spare switches. I don't remember the source but it was either Digikey or Mouser. If you would like the P/N I can look for the spare package. But that could take a month as I am on travel. There should be a note in the files somewhere.

Re: FT-847 power switch

I would suggest you do not just turn psu on, it will more than likely have a voltage surge on switch on.
Disconnect positive from psu, turn on psu and then connect positive.
I have plenty of switches in stock, that are on ebay, but ebay vastly inflates the price for shipping to abroad from UK.?
Direct is considerably cheaper.

HI

Years ago I had the same problem too.

Sooner or later it happens to everyone, it depends on how you use the radio to know if "BEFORE" OR "AFTER"...

?

The first time I shorted the contacts with the other position, then that one also blew and I replaced the switch completely with a new one which I found identical.

?

It has held since then, but it will happen again...maybe...

I always use the radio, now these days I notice another problem that gives me little VHF power... maybe the power amps or something else...

I've been using it for years and years now... something had to happen... unfortunately.
