FT-847 on 8M

I've tried receiving 8M signals with my FT-847.? So far I decoded two stations on 40.680 Mhz using the 847 and an 80M wire.??

FT-847 on 8M?

Has anyone tried using an 847 on the new experimental 8M band?? I've been monitoring 40.680 (FT8) for several?days without?success.? Given the time of year, this is no surprise?but, I wonder, how sensitive?the radio?is at 40Mhz.

Has anyone tried transmitting on 40 Mhz?? Does the wideband mod enable the radio to xmit on 8M?

You can contact me via the ARRL reflector.

73,

Tom? ?K6EU

If anyone is parting out an 847, looking for the front plastic panel.? Mine got cracked in shipping.

Thank you!

All,

?

So what I found out is the ALC modification that I implemented to use the 847 with transverter's disabled the SAT mode function.? I'm not sure why but removing the diode that was suggest by OK1VPZ and team fixed the issue.?

If PSU is too low a capacity, it will cut out. FM being a full current mode, it will cut out. Ignore the FT8, go back to basics and fault find. Put the radio on a dummy load, connected to a known good PSU, and try it again.
You could even check the power lead for dirty fuses or connections, as that is known to cause problems.

Re: FT-847 Transmit Problem

Hi, I'm just picking up on this thread but I've had a similar problem before.... the two screw terminals that clamp down the incoming cable inside the FT847 are prone to working loose. Also inline fuses that are badly made off can offer a significant voltage drop.

thats my 2p worth.

That sounds like a power supply problem to me. Possibly only able to supply about 5A instead of 25-30A

Hello Group - Trying to troubleshoot a Transmit Problem - trying to set-up for FT8 HF.
As I adjust RF Power and MIC Gain while transmitting FT8 the -847 cuts out and Display flashes and I loose CAT connection. Note - this also occurs if I use a microphone. As I increase MIC Gain it cuts out. During FT8 HF - as I adjust MIC Gain I get to a little over 10-12W and the radio cuts out. I’ve tied all combinations of FT8 input levels to no avail. What am I doing wrong?? Or is there a problem with the radio??

Why would it matter what you have connected to it unless you are using a PC connection onto items as I said previously. The only other thing is RF getting back to the Radio, depending on your set up. This will shut your radio down, especially with something like FT8 & fm which is full duty cycle. It might be better if you do a drawing and show your set up what you are actually using and how are you doing it. You will know if it’s the internal battery, because if you change any settings you will lose them so you can rule this out if it doesn’t happen. ?
