Phil...I have never been to any of your SP's yet. I am in Chesapeake Va. and looking?for some?place to go during?those periods of time. I have a small utility trailer (12 feet long) that I've converted to a camper. I've done nothing but astrophotography since 2002 and require daily charging?of my 3 batteries in the trailer. Is there a spot where I could set up the trailer?for?camping and run my Honda 2KW (quiet) generator during the day for a few hours each day to?recharge the?batteries? #2022 events UPDATE
? Hello everyone, I hope everyone is well and has had a nice holiday! ? I first wish to thank all attendees that supported the effort in 2022, and I thank you for your good will and spreading the word to your clubs and friends.? Last year I delayed decisions to hold the parties until summertime, which limited what I could accomplish, but many people did get a taste of what this site offers.? I plan to expand activities and offerings moving forward, and hope more attendees will have the opportunity to experience these events in 2022. ? We can hope that the country is in a different place going forward, and I was absolutely thrilled that ALL attendees had proof of vaccinations, which I had hoped for (though not surprised). I have been quiet since the parties, taking care of business, and getting things squared away with the state parks people.? I have gotten permission for two parties in 2022, and the dates are as follows: ? June 22-26, 2022 (weekend before the Fourth of July weekend) AND September 21-25, 2022 Registration will be opening during January, as soon as I can get the website updated sufficiently.? I am asking for any volunteers for talks to start submitting requests and ideas ASAP so I can list them on the websites. ?Anyone interested in helping in any way at the party, please let me know which activities and how much time you can offer, either in advance or strictly at the party.? I will list such items in a future email soon. ? There are always different ideas and suggestions on when to hold parties, and I do my best to try to make the dates acceptable to the largest amount of people, and hope there aren’t too many schedule conflicts.? I promise not to have two consecutive months in a row again.? Months are limited by major holiday weekends not being available to use, as per state park guidelines.? ? I hope everyone has a Happy New Year and stays safe! Phil |

Party Time!!!
Good morning, everyone! I hope you are all dry this morning.? We are. Get I'm was going to send this before 4pm, but I was fortunate to have Pete share much info with me.? Please consider joining us... he needs someone else to share with...PLEASE!!! Forecasts change.? Earlier ones did.? The first prediction of a CHANCE of rain has been pushed back to overnight Saturday (Anyone notice a trend here?) This is the most gorgeous camping weather we have had in October in a long time.? This is a gorgeous park to socialize in. It's not hot during the day, and not cold at night. The chance of precip is less than 15% until Saturday night.? Yes, the forecast says it might be overcast much of the time.. but I already discussed forecasts.?? If anyone has any intention to join us, PLEASE TEXT OR EMAIL ME * YES OR *NO IMMEDIATELY.? I plan on being here ONLY until Saturday afternoon.? OR LEAVE SOONER if not many are going to join us or reply....?? By the way, last night, a hole opened up, and it was dark.?We saw: Jupiter and Saturn...and the following constellations:? Cassiopia Lyra Aquila Andromeda Pegasus Lacerta Delphias Cygnus Sagita and part of the Big Dipper.? Pete also saw the Double Cluster.? With 7x35 binos, Pete was able see the Owl Cluster NGC 457, and make out the cluster Stock 1, near the Double Cluster, as well as open cluster Mel 20.? More holes opened up today, actually the sun woke Pete up when his tent warmed up.?? Don't feel too bad.? The holes closed within an hour. However, Mr Starr arrived around 3pm, and says all the forecasts he looked at are saying the sky will have some holes tonight, and they all say tomorrow night WILL be better. Hope to see you here! YCSP NOW!
Hello all! I'm at the camp site, and it is very nice and quiet here, except for the woodpecker, other birds, and falling walnuts.? Just wondering where everyone else is... A few people let me know they aren't well, a few others changed their plans. There are a couple people here, and we have the park to ourselves tonight.? I also understand no one else has reserved the pavilion during the event, so it is available to use. I have some things planned for the party, too.? Movies start tonight, if desired.?? Hope to see you here! Phil |
Fw: A Great New NASA Web Site Which Graphically Shows Science Data and Time Lapse Photography
Fellow Observers, Here is a web site which you need to check out because it uses graphics and time lapse photos to show sea ice reduction, Lake Meade drying up etc.? Basically the site uses images instead of text/numbers data to get the point across. YCSP update
开云体育? ? In response to some questions, here are a few updates: ? As of today, I am thanking the weather gods.? Forecast now is only a few showers Saturday and Sunday.? This field is amazing, and there has been no mud or puddles on it regardless of downpours. I’m planning to be on site in the morning, staying until the last person leaves.? However, observing isn’t looking very promising, but like the rain forecast all last week, no one can really predict the weather. ? Like one precocious 7 year old said a few years ago, “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” ? Busy Bee will not be licensed for this one.? Sorry.? Good news is that no one starved last time. ? If those that are registered have made a decision to either attend or stay home, I would appreciate a private email from all so I can assess how many to plan for.? ? I have the pavilion rented with electric Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.? ? I have a TV monitor and a projector & screen, and I’m bringing some movies.? If you’ve got something astro-related, I’m also bringing popcorn.? AND a microwave.? ? WHAT I COULD REALLY USE IS A BIG STOVETOP PERCOLATOR FOR COFFEE.? I have electric pots, and amazon just notified me the 30-cup stovetop one I ordered won’t arrive until (guess…) Columbus day.? It is now cancelled. ? ? ? |

Hi, folks -?
Here’s another image from that weekend. It’s Sharpless 2-132, an emission nebula in Cepheus. Color palette is a bit unusual, but standard HSO was far too red (Ha overwhelmed everything else).
Enjoy!
