Great to hear it Kevin! Everyone, please share my last email with your friends and clubs!? I am planning to invest more to make this party better than ever, and I need your support! Last year I invested in a portable shower, and a new flat screen for talks.? AND an inverter generator to power it, and for battery charging.? BONUS #1.. tomorrow morning (and probably Saturday and Sunday,? too.)? the Parade of Planets (Google it)?should be visible from the park entrance around 4am.? Unobstructed eastern horizon overlooking Amish farms. BONUS # 2.. I am going to attempt to provide a free fresh-cooked cheese pizza dinner for everyone registered Saturday evening! (I DO have a plan!) (ALL thin crust, for carb-watchers like myself).? NOTE: BYOB (ONLY Birch or Root beers allowed, or other non-alchoholic beverages). NOTE:? Please send an email ASAP if you intend to register, I am buying supplies in York by 10am this morning. (I'll have some extra).? (Please register asap). Phil |

Great forecast after noon today!
Good morning everyone! Just got 8 hours of very much needed sleep. ?Came home last night for more stuff, left the camper there. ?I was virtually the only person in the park yesterday, due to the storms forecast. ?Radar shows heavy storms did arrive at the park around 8-9 pm, and now, 6am, are still training over the park, and for the next couple hours. Direct hit. Glad I told Val Korsniak and Pete Kellerman to postpone arrival until today. ?Forecast after noon today is great, clearing tonight, mostly clear Friday and Saturday nights, 80s days, 60s nights, next rain after the party. Great weekend!? We got lucky!?? I will be there by noon today. ? REMEMBER, this camping field has never gotten soft, had ponding, mud, or developed ruts in all the storms and rain we've experienced during the last 3 parties here.? Lots of space left! Please join us for what could be a terrific first party of the summer! And thanks for all your support!? Phil |
Update
Well, only a few sprinkles during today.? Thursday afternoon thru Sunday have good forecasts, including clear nights.? This is a great opportunity to enjoy Astronomy at a beautiful park.? This state park is darker with more amenities than at any site that that I held the Mason Dixon Star Party at.? We still haven't reached full capacity yet, so please consider joining a great bunch of fellow hobbyists!? It doesn't get much closer and more affordable than this! Thanks! Phil De Rosa |
Dogs allowed?
I'm registered for the Star Party and hope to be able to attend for Friday and Saturday nights at least (I can't get off work for earlier).? Looking forward to it.
I plan to use a 2-p tent.? The question is: Can I bring my puppy along?? He's 9 weeks old and will be in a crate much of the time. Thanks for all your work organizing everything, great job! - Red |
Re: Question: Can you stay just one night?
Hi Don!? I remember you.? Glad you can make it in September. And yes, Pete already registered.? If you could send a note around to any clubs you're in contact with, that would be appreciated.? You are welcome to just forward my recent email.?? Enjoy your summer! Phil Get |

Registration is now open!
Hello everyone! I hope all is well in your corner of the universe!? I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend, and also looking forward to enjoying our hobby this year, and gatherings with friends at clubs and star parties.?? I have been pulling things together for this year's events, and am happy to report the basics are in place, and I'm working on my list of final details and possibilities.? I expect to be able to keep you updated over the next few weeks with my progress. The State Parks people are moving forward with a long-term agreement at Susquehannock Park, and are agreeable to using red filters over most of the existing lighting. HELP NEEDED!? I need help for this... the PARKS people are asking me to find a red filter made from a solid material to cover the flourescent tubes in the bathrooms.? If anyone knows of a suitable source, please forward to me your suggestions and any contact info you find, the sooner the better.? Supplies are backed up everywhere nowadays.... |
2022 PARTY UPDATES: JUNE 22-26 and SEPTEMBER 21-25, 2022
开云体育Hello everyone!? Is anyone missing summer yet? ? FIRST:? Thank you everyone who attended in the past for your support, and for getting vaccinated, we had 100% vaccinated attendees at both parties.? ?As always, please be safe. ? FOOD: I have spoken to Andy, of the Busy Bee food provider, and he has stated he will be available, for both parties.? He is checking all details and hopes to commit by January 14. ? ARRANGEMENTS: I also requested an appointment with the park supervisor on Friday Jan 21 to spell out any details in order to keep everybody on the same page this year. ? LOCATION: I have also started to reserve the pavilions, either of which may be used this year, neither of which is too distant for our purposes.? The ballfield pavilion may not be available for the Saturdays involved, but the Hawk Point pavilion isn’t that far a walk to meet our needs for Saturday.? I will be confirming exact arrangements as we get closer to the events. ? I am guessing the max capacity of the ballfield, without camping next to the trees, is somewhere around 70 campsites, we won’t know until we see what that looks like.? The large camper/RV lot is available for the heavier units, and I am working with the staff to make the adjacent bathroom lighting to be much more friendly that last year.? In the meantime, I would encourage early registration as soon as available, considering people are in the mood to fill up the cruise ships, and this is a much safer event to attend.? ? WEBSITE: I am in the process of updating the website, with pricing and more, I am trying to keep this thing affordable.? I am also looking into offering T-shirts again, and will keep you updated (seems the supply isn’t consistent, and specific color/sizes might need to be flexible going forward). ? If you know of an astro event calendar or website/publication to post info, please forward a link to me at my address below.? The days of sending out snail mail are long gone.? Be sure to join the email list at io.groups for updates, the link is below, and on the party website.? PLEASE allow special notice permission at the very least.? I try not to pollute your inbox.? I’ll try to have the Meta/Facebook page updated, as well as any other social media we might find helpful.? As always, sharing this info with your friends and other hobbyists is greatly appreciated. ? I look forward to seeing everyone again this year. ?Dates are on the website, and we are as close to new moon I can get and still not be on a summer holiday weekend, which is not allowed. Stay tuned!? Phil JUNE 22-26 and SEPTEMBER 21-25, 2022 ? ? _._,_._,_ |
Re: #2022 events UPDATE: 2022 DATES: *JUNE 22-26* and *SEPTEMBER 21-25*
开云体育Happy Holidays, everyone! ? Hi Teja, thanks for the questions, and glad to hear we’ll be seeing you again. ? YES we are at the same site.? The state park people have stated they want to work out a long-term event agreement with me this year, and I’ve been staying in touch with them. ? ABOUT CANCELLATIONS:? Last year was unusual.? In the past, I only cancelled an event due to impending severe weather.? The event was rain or shine, with no refunds.? The only exception was if there were honest mis-communications, when I decided to favor the attendee.? With all the costs heaped on holding the event, and only a handful of attendees at the October event, I had to cancel the pavilion reservations as much as possible just to do a little better than break even.? I intend to negotiate a few requirements that other parks have agreed to, some or all of which may be able to be resolved this year.? This is a work in progress, and both sides have a vested interest in having the event continue here. ? That said, if things go well, I do intend to try to keep it at this location, no matter if I move out of the area or stay nearby.? After all, I took the reigns of this activity because I loved the concept at my first Mason Dixon Star Party in 1994, and I did the work to keep it alive.? The dark skies and facilities available make it possible to organize it and manage it for a very long time into the future, and I plan at being at every event for as long as I can physically attend.? ? Stay tuned, everyone, I will start prepping in earnest next week, and will keep you informed on what we can look forward to this year. Happy New Years, everyone!? And thanks for your support!
