Good Laugh
Hello all, I just had to post this email from one of my groups. The group name is repeater-builder. This is a cut and paste. Just couldn't help but getting a good belly laugh. Neil Re: Tkr751 issue cause found! From: skipp025 Date: Mon, 21 Dec 2020 18:09:52 PST On Mon, Dec 21, 2020 at 03:41 PM, Pierre Martel wrote: My electronic teacher told me to always check the power source as the first step with any debugging of any circuit. It always helped me solve many strange problems other tech were not able to fix. My High School Electronics Teacher told us he liked Tesla Coils... so we built and all enjoyed testing them. I built one out a large 10 inch dia sewer pipe/tube, probably 8 foot vertical standing height. It operated with a large neon sign transformer controlled from/through a variac. Fast forward, aka "smash-cut" about 8 to 10 years later... I was asked to sub teach back at my old High School, so I went by the electronics classroom to see if anyone I knew was still around. The instructor had left, new guy in place and things were kind of the same. One learns you can rarely ever "go back" and expect all to be as it was. After some nice back and forth with the current instructor, I spotted my old 8 foot high Tesla Coil stored in the back of the room. "Hey, there's my old Tesla Coil"... "You're the one who built that Tesla?" ... the instructor then proceed to tell me a story... Years before, someone had stolen/borrowed the control variac from the Tesla Coil base unit. I had never operated the Tesla up at anything above 20% of the Variac's full range potential.. it was quite the monster. Another person had later found the unit and decided to plug it in (less the variac) direct to the way, full mains supply potential ... and off it went. It started plasma cutting bolts across the room, keeping students pinned behind benches and around corners. Anyone attempting to move away from cover was quickly punished. Someone managed to cut the building power about 25 minutes later, the AC power cord was quickly cut off the Tesla supply... The class room still has hundreds of etch marks all over the walls and roof. Wasn't my fault... left the school that day, never saw that Tesla Coil again. Wonder if whom ever ended up with it... ever plugged it in. cheers, Hamm's Beer Neon Sign Power Transformer View/Reply Online | Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute Topic | Top ^ | New Topic

starlink pass w/clear a sky forecast tonight
They say a clear sky will allow us to see this pass of 48 or so starlink satellites tonight. 6:26 pm first one rising in the SW 6:33 pm last one rising in the SW rising to 72¡ã to 82¡ã in the SE 6:30 pm first one setting in the ENE 6:40 pm last one setting in the ENE Face South or Southeast, watch them rise in the SW and set in the ENE. Let there be clear skies this evening.... If it is clear, there will probably be a UFO invasion listed in the Chronicle police reports Wednesday. Just like the last good pass. Harley

looking for sheet aluminum 7
There is an RLC-4 controller at each repeater site that needs a cover plate. .040 thick aluminum works just great, 4.4" x 7" is the perfect size. Can cut over sized pieces to fit. The RLC-4 comes with an enclosure, but have modified it to make adjustments easier. Therefore, the need for a cover. I use neodymium magnets to hold the cover in place on the steel enclosure. No screws, just slide the cover away, make adjustments, and slide back into place. Need about 10 pieces, a couple would get me by, the rest can wait until later. ERA needs 4 MRLA needs 3 Any ideas of where there might be some for the asking? Have checked Pacific every now and then, no luck so far. Thanks, Harley

Plus offset 88 rptr fixed
The plus offset input, for the 146.88- repeater, has been deaf as of late. Installed a new receiving antenna, thanks Skeet!, Monday about noon time. It hears much better now. As some of you know, much of Bozeman lies in the shadow of the Bridger 146.88- repeater. To help getting into the Bridger repeater from Bozeman, a plus offset input to it was placed on the roof of Cobleigh Hall some years ago. To use it, just program in a 146.88+ 100Hz channel into your radios. Remember to switch back to the -offset when outside of Bozeman. If you have had trouble getting into 88- from town, give the 88+ a try. Harley

Hello All, It's the beginning of the year and time to ask for donations to the Association for the site rent and repeater maintenance costs. I'm working on a matching grant from Orcale. If this grant is approved then we may qualify for a dollar for dollar match. I'll keep everyone informed as this progresses. Please hold off donating until I know more. Neil Ramhorst KL7JGS Treasurer
