Any one want to handle this? Harley CommentOrQuestion This request is a Comment or Question. Email Address: tschober@... Comment or Question I am the new STEAMlab coordinator at the Montana Science Center in Bozeman, and have been a ham since 1990, AE7PJ. It has been a while since I have been to any W7ED meetings, but was fairly active as a non-voting member for a few years. The Montana Science Center was formerly the Bozeman Children's Museum, and has recently rebranded and relocated to across Huffine from the mall. In the rebranding, one of our goals is to raise the average age of our customers, begin to target middle and high school students, and get them excited in all things technology related. In that effort, I feel that creating a ham station at the Science Center is perfectly in line with our vision. When I was active with W7ED, one of the areas of focus was to attract the interest of younger hams. What better way, than to bring ham radio to where there are middle and high school students are, who already have expressed an interest in technology. However, I can not do it all myself. There is plenty of opportunity for the Gallatin Ham Radio Club to help! I know there are members who have built many more stations than I have, so I would greatly appreciate some consultation in planning and installing one when the time comes. Any hardware that could be donated to bolster the utility of the station would be fabulous. I also plan on providing license classes, and could use the help of your experienced instructors and VEs My long term goal is to start a youth ham club at the Montana Science Center to participate in the various aspects of ham radio, both in the shack and in the field. I think W7ED would be a great Elmer club to help it get off the ground, and maintain a healthy relationship between the generations of hams. Best regards, Tim Schober STEAMlab Coordinator Montana Science Center www.MontanaScienceCenter.org

new 88 repeater 6
Today, Thursday, a replacement 88 repeater was installed on Bridger ridge. The old GE Mastr II served us well for around 20 years. The replacement repeater is a Motorola MTR2000. Power to the antenna is now around 52 watts. Was around 30 watts before. The squelch opens at about .1 uV There is nothing on the MTR2000 that can be adjusted with a screwdriver. All is done with via software, using an old Laptop running XP. It should reach out better, and hear better. Would like to hear what differences in coverage you folks notice. Or any problems that you discover. The change-over was made by ae7nz & ki7xf. Other hams that helped were kl7jgs and kg7kcv. The MTR2000 was donated to ERA by Gallatin County, a "hand me down" as they upgraded. 73

ERA Report
Hello all, Summer is starting to wind down. The trip up to the Bridger Ridge site was a success, our fear was that the antenna had gone bad. Harley and Pat were able to repair the bad receive pre-amp, as well as install a new MTR2000 Motorola repeater. As the Treasurer of ERA I wanted to extend a thanks to all who have donated to ERA this year. Below is a list of everyone that I show has donated this year. If I've missed anyone, please let me know. It is important that we acknowledge everyone who has helped. Our rent for the Bridger Ridge site is caught up now. We were behind by about a half year. That leaves us with about 225.00 left in the account. Our insurance is due soon for the equipment and liability. I've applied for several grants, but no success yet. We need to have a little more reserve going into the end of the year. Any contributions will be appreciated. There is a P.O. box and also Pay Pal for the Association. P.O. Helicopter pilots death
To all, With true sadness today I learned of the death of Tom Duffy. He was one of the helicopter pilots that we used for many years to fly us and our equipment to Bridger Ridge. His dad Mark Duffy is the owner of Central Helicopter. Tom had just flown us down from Bridger Ridge less than two weeks ago when we changed out the 88 repeater. I have many great memories of nearly 20 years of flights with him. My thoughts are with the Duffy family and everyone at Central Heliocopter. Neil KL7JGS -- Neil Ramhorst KL7JGS P.O. power pole voltmeter 10
Made a couple of these in the last year. Find them very handy when testing things. Power Pole connectors on both ends, so it feeds through. The meter is available for about 50 cents, if purchased in quantities of 10 or so. My Grandson 3-d printed the case. If there is interest, we could do an order for some of the little voltmeters. Have some cases printed and sell it as a DIY kit at cost. You supply the power poles. Posted a couple of photos on the groups.io w7ed page. One photo is attached:

voltmeters ordered 2
10 people have expressed an interest in one or more of them, so will go ahead with the power pole project. 36 voltmeters for the power pole voltmeter project have been ordered. They come from China, with a delivery estimate of dec 21 thru feb 19. 18 with red displays 18 with yellow displays They are about $1.25 each. More than I paid in the past, but still quite reasonable. They are slightly smaller in size, so we will have to design a new case. Bob, maybe you can do the case re-design & print the cases. Will give you the files from the previous design, when I get them. 73, Harley

Radios for sale
Hello all, It's winter time and shack cleaning time. I have three radios for sale. 1 - each Kenwood TS2000 all band all mode. Good shape and bench checked. This radio has 160 through 10 meters as well as 50, 144, and 440 MHz. Includes power cord and hand microphone. $750.00 OBO. Link for more information on this one and the one below. https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamhf/1978.html 1 - each Kenwood TS2000 all band all mode. Good shape and bench checked. This radio has 160 through 10 meters as well as 50, 144, and 440 MHz. It has one issue that needs to be addressed. The UHF band 430-450 only puts out 5 watts. In my research it may be that the radio needs a firmware update. Includes power cord and hand microphone. $450.00 OBO. 1 - Yeasu FT-990. This radio was donated to ERA by Trevor. It is functional but has a intermittent issue of receive going out. It is believed that it is caused by dirty relays in the band switching section. It is priced accordingly. The funds from this sale will go into the ERA account to help with expenses next year. $400.00 OBO. Here is a link to the web site for more information. https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamhf/ft990.html Please contact me directly at kl7jgs at gmail.com Neil

satellite search link
I use the following link to find anything in the sky. You must set your location, then pick what you want to see. Good hunting, the clouds have been masking the starlink satellites. Saw nothing Monday or Tuesday. Heavens-Above Heavens-Above Satellite predictions and other astronomical data customised for your location.

Belgrade Christmas Convoy 4
Truckers of the small town of Belgrade, just west of Bozeman, put this together As far as I know, it was not advertised. A friend sent this link to me. Quite a bit of clever electronics went into it, like inside of the rotating wheels etc ... Looks like helicopter and drone video. Merry Christmas, Harley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC85KbUY5MA

oops: Starlink pass 22 Dec Tues
Upon re-checking the next pass, I found that it is on Tuesday the 22nd. Sorry. I think that the prediction changed, although, I could have had a "brain fart". They should pass nearly overhead. From 80¡ã to 90¡ã above the horizon. And set at 5:30pm, in the Southeast at about 10¡ã above the horizon. Hope it is a clear evening, Harley I saw nothing Sunday, too cloudy.
