Re: ARRL Foundation Club Grant - Application Deadline Approaching

Along with all these activities - getting kids on the air can really be fun for them.? Let them have a QSO with another ham somewhere in the world will make a lasting impression.? I took CW classes with a retired police officer and he was teaching in a special school.? They had put up antennas and he brought in his radio.? He got the kids on the air and they were hooked.? Just a thought.

Let me know how I can help with writing up the proposals.? Is there a
copy of the
guidelines for submitting proposals available to read?

I like the E-Comm system coupled with an outreach program into the
community.? (A
nice tie-in would be being able to explain how a ham-radio E-Comm system
would fit
into the larger regional/state disaster planning framework.? (i.e.
having portable 'shacks'
that could be deployed in temporary shelters but support messaging with
the state
network.)

As for scouting.? I am not sure that building antennas by itself, does
much to get more
people involved with ham radio.? The scouts would build an antenna, now
what?? They
would need radios, licenses, signals to chase, ...? I think that
reaching out the younger
people is good for the club, the hobby, and the community.? I don't
think that this does
that.? I think that getting scouts (both boy and girl) in the hobby is
good and that fox
hunts, contesting, and public service activities are a good venue for
doing this because
they can get involved with doing something where they can see how to use
the hobby
for themselves and their community. Also, I think that a smaller groups
would be better.
