Addendum - [W7DXXREMOTE] Totally Off Topic - but - FYI
Thanks for all the public and private responses to my original post - in a way, it's nice (but not really nice) to know I was not the only one that had that type of reaction. It's the vaccination gift that keeps giving - last night I had extreme insomnia and when I finally did get to sleep, woke up an hour later with a "night sweat" - and - that happened again after a nap later in the day - otherwise, a pretty good "normal" day - hoping to actually get a good night's sleep tonight - gadzooks - the upside is that I'm "boosted" and I'll take that:) 73 -- Don N4HH

Totally Off Topic - but - FYI

Hi All This post relates to my experience with the 3rd COVID (Booster) shot. Please feel free to stop reading and return to your normal broadcasting;) Yesterday (Tuesday Sept 7) I received my 3rd shot of the Moderna Vaccine at about 10 am. Yes, being in the "vulnerable" group, this was right on schedule. The Moderna shot was administered at a large CVS on Peachtree St here in Atlanta and it went very smoothly. My two previous shots were also of the Moderna vaccine and also went without a hitch - a little "latent" soreness at the injection site but no following reaction or symptoms - a "walk in the park." Not this time! Most of the day was uneventful. I'm thinking it's another walk in the park - but around 8pm I started to crash. I don't know how to describe the reaction(s) but it "kicked my ass" big time - I can't remember ever being this sick - and throughout the night I experienced some of the following: all pretty much at the same time - or at least what I can remember :( - Severe headache - behind my eyes, temples, down the back of the neck and into the shoulders - Severe muscle and joint pain and aches all over my body. - Severe chills and shivering. - The feeling of being "hot" but without an abnormal temperature - mine usually runs about 97.6 and that is what I measured. - Totally "stuffed up" with some breathing difficulty - like you had a really bad cold that included your lungs. - Bloating or "fullness" in the stomach but no nauseousness. - Dizziness to the point of not being able to get out of bed or walk without hanging on to something - extreme "unbalance" and some "spaciness." - An elevated pounding heart-rate - running over 110 bpm all night and sometimes spiking at 125 bpm - - today, at about 8pm - after slowly declining all day - this has pretty much returned to normal which for me is about 60 bpm +- when resting. I actually went to sleep at about 8 am this morning and finally got out of bed around 4:30 pm. At 4:30 I was feeling much better - almost all the symptoms were gone except for a mild lingering headache which I still have. I can tell you that if what I experienced is even somewhat what it is like to actually have a real case of COVID, it is totally unbelievably devastating - you really don't want to get this! It's now almost 9 pm and I'm pretty much back to my normal self :)) TAKEAWAY Remember - I got the Moderna shot(s) and everyone will have different physical reactions regardless of the vaccine provider. BUT - if, or rather when, you are going to get the "booster" shot be sure to schedule it when you have nothing pressing or even on the calendar for the next day or two - just in case you have a reaction like I did - and I sincerely hope you do not! / '73 es gud Dxing - - Don N4HH

2021 CQ WW SSB WPX Contest Results
2
Mike, Robert and I entered the 2021 CQ WPX SSB contest as a team by networking N1MM Logger to the remote and using the W7DXX call sign. Mike and Robert did almost all the work - I barely showed up! It was lots of fun - and - we won first place in the 5th call area in the Category: Multi-Operator Single-Transmitter High Power. In addition we were 17th in North America and 73rd in the World in that same category. Congrats guys - here's the certificate:

FT8 - Use DATA Mode
This should be old news by now but just a reminder RE: DATA Mode DATA Mode automatically does two very desirable things: 1. It automatically sets TX audio response to Flat - in USB mode we have a 6db peak at 2400 Hz followed by a 5 db peak at 3200 Hz - and a roll off sloping all the way down to - 16 db at 50 Hz over the 8 octaves that we can control - this is terrific for SSB - but - depending on the centered audio freq that is used on FT8 this would be very detrimental and contribute to a very likely high distortion situation. 2. It automatically sets the TX audio compression to Zero (0) - in USB mode we have 10 db of TX audio compression - this is super for SSB but contributes greatly to FT8 distortion - particularly when the FT8 operator is driving with more audio than they probably really need to. Work on the LP is progressing - stay tuned and have fun. 73 -- Don N4HH

80,40,and 30 all fine
Just tried cw and ft-8 on 80,40,and 30.. I monitored ft-8 at home and it was clean with no distortion.. All worked fine ¡ 100W with amp off for ft-8, CW was full power on 80 and 40. Amp on 30m was limited to the max FCC allowable of 200w. Well done guys guess now days I have to say ¡°well done folks¡± John K9dx Sent from Mail for Windows

FT8 Guide and Tips
Attached in PDF format is an FT8 Operating Guide written by Gary Hinson ZL2IFB - this guide is very through and full of tips - pretty much "The Book" when it comes to understanding FT8. Everyone should read this for better understanding of what is going on and how to get better at using FT8. A few tips for operating FT8 on our remote: 1. Amp should be in Standby position -why - because at the current time controlling the amp power output using digital modes is problematic and can, and frequently does, result in 100 watts of drive to the amp thus putting it in a "FAULT" mode. This "might" eventually get straightened out - no, we don't have a current timetable as to when. 2. Mode should be in DATA - why - because transmit audio Compression is automatically set to zero and TX EQ is automatically set to Flat. Otherwise, it's very easy to create distortion on the signal. 3. ALC should be no more than 4 bars - why - because ALC over this creates distortion on the signal. 4. Make sure your computer time is correct - why - because reliable decoding of FT8 relies on proper time synchronization between computers. NetTime ( https://www.timesynctool.com/ ) is free and easy to use. 5. You should probably keep your local audio monitor off - several cases have been reported on other remotes where local audio monitors were feeding back into the audio stream to the xmtr creating lots of distortion. Hello Fellow Contester W7DXX, Thank you for your past support of domestic SSB contests, such as the NAQP. How about trying a fun 4 hour SSB contest? It is the North American SSB Sprint Contest. It is Saturday evening April 3rd here in North America. Which is April 4, 2021 0000 - 0359 UTC. It has some very interesting rules that make it a bit unique and exciting. Certificates to the top scores in each state/province and/or anyone scoring over 1,200 points. And there are Door Prizes available for recipients who score at least 1,500 points (just takes 50 QSOs and 30 mults) !!! As well as a SSB Sprint Worked All States T-Shirt for those that manage to work all 50 states in the 4 hours. Which actually has been done by multiple participants in the past! And now we have just added a SSB Sprint Worked All Canada T-Shirt for those that manage to work all 13 Canadian multipliers in the 4 hours. Check it all out at http://ssbsprint.com We want to be sure to have every state and every Canadian multiplier on the air. So, if you have a chance, please enter your planned activity at https://ssbsprint.com/planned-activity/my-planned-activity/ We were able to have all states on the air in the 2020 events, but some were limited. And be sure to send in your score for a chance to win a door prize! (¡°Score prize!¡±) https://ssbsprint.com/awards-prizes/
