Re: SOTA companion welcome

Hi Bernd,
?
You're right -- self-spotting could have really helped.
From what I read there should have been cell service up there.
But it proved too unreliable.
On my first CQ, my phone dinged right away showing that I'd been spotted.
But when I tried to self-spot, I no longer had a cell signal.
I was very focused on SOTA and did not think to post to POTA.app before I left.
Next time!

Hi Al,
?
QSB was quite pronounced.
But here's my RBN chart:
?
I was spotted 67 times with reports ranging from 3-32dB.
Go figure.

Nice pictures, I am surprised the snow is already gone..... next time publish your anticipated frequencies and approximate?time, that would help me to find you, or at least try to listen (while at work). I was checking the SOTA and POTA web sites but couldn't find you.

I usually make one or two contacts on 2 meters and several on 20 meters.
Today it was the reverse.

Re: SOTA companion welcome

Hi Bernd,
?
Well, I was thinking that given 2000 feet elevation gain over 3 miles, folks could decide for themselves what "somewhat strenuous" means.? : )
For me, it means lots of huffing and puffing and lots of breaks to rest!
Grouse Vista trailhead is at 2400 feet (snow elevation is supposed to be well above that).
There is a parking lot there (or so I hear).
Silver Star summit is around 4400 feet.
A friend told me that the road to the trailhead is OK.
I'll abort and go to an alternate peak (or just do POTA in Gifford Pinchot) if it looks risky at all to drive.

Re: SOTA companion welcome

"somewhat strenuous" is a very subjective indication?of the level of difficulty :-)

Where do you park? Not that I will be able to join you (since I still work), but have fun in the snow.

Yaesu FTM-150ASP for trade or sale

Do you have a Yaesu C4FM digital dual band mobile but don't use the digital features? How about trading for a 3 month old FTM-150ASP? It is as it came from the box except for power poles on the supply leads, and includes the box and original accessories. Send a text if you're interested (number below).
?
I would also sell without a trade if anyone is interested. Price $340.
?
Note that the warranty is transferrable and I will include a copy of the receipt from HRO.
?
Please text if interested.? (360) 772-6055

From my POTA inquiry;
?
Hi Dave, yes, the inundation area (grey) qualifies for activation locations as long as you are on public land. You can be in a local park and use US-3424 .?
?
hope this helps, opens up some possibilities ?

That isn't the entire trail, just one point. They do the same with parks and national forests, but anywhere insude the border works.?

Notice on the information to the left of the map, it shows it in "US-ID, US-MT, US-OR, US-WA".

The map I sent is from the NPS link on that page, and is the official map of the Trail.

Re: The closest POTA park I never knew about

Upon closer examination it is not clear to me what the park boundary is.
The gray area on the map is showing the glacial flood plain.
That's why the high points like the Prune Hill area are not part of that.
Since the park has "trail" in its name, I think it's safe to assume the "trails" shown in dark green are within the park.
The rest is not so clear to me.
Maybe a POTA expert can enlighten us.
