talking to myself so far - anyone?
|
This isn't a chat. It's a message thread on an forum. Messages are not realtime like a chat unless people are logged in an watching for updates. In general usage a forum is asynchronous.
?
There is a chat function in groups.io but it just confuses people, in my experience, because people tend not to be logged in and watching for chat messages.?
?
There are also groups.io features for member directory, photos, polls, files, calendar, database, wiki.

sounds like an example of: MJ talking about his Steppir antenna. STEPPIR CHAT Connie talking about how to install a mast. MAST CHAT Tony talking about this weather station. WEATHER STATION CHAT
If each item is separated?in a CHAT people?would respond to it in 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month......
How does the user pick a specific topic so it stays on topic within that chat?

They click "New Topic" on the left.?
?
Replace "CHAT" with "Thread" and you have it down.

That's not a chat.
?
Also, some people get their ?mailing list as a daily digest. It works to be informed but not for interactive discussion.

I think 's primary purpose should be a way for the club to make announcements and stay in touch with the club members, and less a channel where anything goes. If gets too much garbage, people will unsubscribe from it, and the club won¡¯t be able to stay in contact?with its members.
?
If the board decides to use ?for the main communication channel, it makes sense to ask the members to join, but you can¡¯t ask them to join and then have ?send dozens of emails with two-word sentences or random stuff not related to the club or hobby as we have on the chat.

If the purpose is one-way, outbound communication then groups.io is not the right tool. Either continue to just use email or an email blast service like mailchimp.

When I joined the club via meetup I notes that that app has messaging and a discussion board. Nobody pays much attention to those, it seems.
?
I received one message on meetup, from Brian when I joined the club.

Hi all! Stiv Ostenberg, K9STV, Community Outreach Officer for Southern Peninsula Emergency Communications System. We have started a Meetup down south, and are trying to tie together all the Ham Clubs and Organizations in Santa Clara County so events are easier to discover. If you have events you want to open to folks down south, I can grant Host permission to create events on our Meetup. I am trying to pioneer an effort to encourage Elmers to host events, and I have some guidelines to help them get started.

That wonderful news and a fabulous idea. My name is Tony KM6ETX, and although I am not an admin, I think that's great and look forward to meeting you guys.

Understood. If there is a few announcements?for nets, monthly meetings, and a weekend activity it would likely?be ok for most people. As soon as there is back and forth chatter I think some would unsubscribe or create a filter for [email protected]? to go to a folder to view later. 73, Mike N6IMY

I was looking at the Fox Tango Group for my FT 101 zd Mark III transceiver. I have gotten good info from the Fox Tango forum in the past. I'm not sure how we want to use this platform. From the looks of its use, not much. 73

We started this a couple months back. Let's talk more about using it and trying to get some traction on people knowing about it.
